PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marty Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mamed Becker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Becker is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Shamhan Daldaev - Eto Kavkaz . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots for a takedown but Becker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Becker misses with a double jab.
Silva avoids a punch combination nicely.

Silva instigates a clinch.
Silva fails to pull guard.
Silva tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Becker smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marty Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silva has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Becker finds it's way round the side to connect with Silva's head.
Becker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Silva closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Becker moves in looking to clinch but Silva pushes him off.
Silva will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Silva goes for an armbar but Becker turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Becker.

Becker thows a huge punch but Silva dodges it nicely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Becker postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Silva is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Becker, into his guard.

Silva wants to control from the top but Becker keeps moving.

Becker is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Silva won't allow Becker to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marty Silva dominated that round.

Silva slips a jab and a cross from Becker.
Silva gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Silva shoots in but Becker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Becker sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Silva misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Silva wants to clinch up but Becker keeps it at a distance.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Becker sprawls well. Becker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

Silva scores with a one two! Becker had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Becker pulls Silva in to control the position.
Becker lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Silva!

Becker has control of Silva's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Silva regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Silva regains half guard.
Silva wants to control but Becker is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Silva is controlling Becker's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Silva moves into full guard.
Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Silva stands up from half guard.
Becker tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Marty Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Silva darts in and clinches Becker up against the cage.
Becker prevents the takedown attempt.
Silva can't get the takedown.

Becker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Becker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Silva.
Becker swats away the attempt to clinch by Silva.

Becker stalks Silva and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Silva's face. Silva staggers backwards, shaken.

Silva pushes Becker up against the cage in a clinch.
Silva tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Becker just stands there and leans against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Becker looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Silva fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Silva takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Mamed Becker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Becker throws a series of punches but Silva avoids them all with ease.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Becker sprawls well. Becker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

Becker displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Silva.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Becker lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Becker counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Becker might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Becker is trying to control but can't.
Becker is looking for a sweep. Silva is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Silva thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Becker's head.
Silva perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Silva passes into side control, despite Becker's attempt to control the position.
Becker prevents Silva from moving into mount.
Marty Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Silva advances nicely into full mount.
