PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pentti Pena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Augusto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Augusto has chosen adu-kein scherz as his entrance music. Pena is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pentti Pena!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Fernando Augusto!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pena misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Pena is breathing heavily.
Augusto shoots in for a double leg but Pena sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pena throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Augusto fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Pena manages to avoid it.

Pena gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Pena looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Augusto passes into half guard.
Augusto lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Augusto passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Augusto looking for a guillotine from mount but Pena is having none of it.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Augusto cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Augusto fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Augusto lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Augusto prevents Pena from getting the reversal.
Augusto putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
A nice elbow there by Augusto.

Augusto has hold of Pena's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pena manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Pena in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Augusto is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pena can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Pena is in a horrible position here. Augusto smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Augusto lands a big shot there that rocks Pena but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Augusto scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Augusto postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pena looks a forlorn figure.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Augusto has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pena's face.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Augusto scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Pena?
Pena is in a horrible position here. Augusto smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Augusto is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pena can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fernando Augusto dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Augusto scores with a hook to the body. Pena takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Augusto jabs at Pena's body.
Augusto explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Augusto closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Augusto moves nicely into side control.
Pena tries to buck Augusto off but Augusto is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Augusto is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pena knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Augusto lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pena stops Augusto from passing to mount.
Augusto connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Pena some visible discomfort.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Augusto is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Pena is trying to escape and Augusto transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Pena is forced to tap! Nice work there by Augusto! Very nice indeed!
