PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shingo Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is .. Takeda is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: TAKEDA. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, George Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shingo Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a looping overhand right but Takeda ducks down to avoid it.
Takeda ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Takeda jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Takeda thows a body kick. Jones tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Takeda takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Jones fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Takeda throws a looping overhand right but Jones ducks down to avoid it.
Jones misses with a two punch combination.
Jones misses with a body shot.
Jones displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Takeda throws out the jab.
Jones is looking to clinch but Takeda is avoiding it.
A head kick misses from Takeda.
Jones walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Takeda throws a push kick but Jones slaps the foot to one side.
A slow jab from Jones misses its intended target.
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones has Takeda up against the cage in a clinch.

Jones takes a shot to the head.
Takeda tries to break the clinch but Jones is controlling the position.

Takeda breaks the clinch.
Takeda throws a head kick that half lands.
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Takeda swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Takeda misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Takeda tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Nice uppercut lands for Jones. That snapped Takeda's head back.
Takeda throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fight stays on the outside here - Takeda looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
No joy there for Takeda, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Takeda.
Takeda misses with a straight left.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Takeda swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Takeda tries to clinch up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones clinches.
Takeda digs a right hand into Jones's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Jones's gas tank.
Takeda blocks an elbow strike.
Takeda on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Takeda breaks the clinch.
Takeda just misses with a punch to the body.
Jones throws a combination that misses
and Takeda counters with a stiff right hand.
Jones fails in his attempt to clinch.
Takeda takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Takeda rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Takeda is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Takeda breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shingo Takeda is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Takeda circles away from the clinch attempt
and Takeda counters with a solid body kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Takeda tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Takeda throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily.
Nice cross by Takeda.
Jones on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Shingo Takeda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Takeda throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A head kick misses from Takeda.
Takeda throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Takeda throws a wild body kick that Jones sees coming a mile off.

Takeda pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Takeda blocks an elbow strike from Jones.

Takeda breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Takeda was well out of range. Poor timing from Jones.
Takeda takes one to the chin there.
Takeda misses with a kick to the body.
Takeda chopping away at his opponent's legs.
A slapping leg kick lands for Jones.
A jab from Takeda misses.
Jones looks to land a right hand but Takeda moved out of range.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Takeda napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Takeda tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Jones throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Takeda managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Jones.
Takeda wants to control but Jones postures up.
Jones wants to control for a moment but Takeda uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Takeda blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jones.
Takeda is trying to stand up here but Jones is controlling him well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Takeda gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jones is looking to control Takeda's arms but Takeda gets an underhook and turns him. Now Jones has his back to the cage.
Takeda dodges an elbow strike from Jones.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Takeda lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Takeda lands a nice shot to the body.
Jones gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Takeda softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Takeda escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones with a body punch. A glancing blow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that George Jones will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Takeda misses with an uppercut. Jones saw that one coming.
Nice uppercut lands for Jones. That snapped Takeda's head back.
Takeda uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jones.
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.
A head kick misses from Takeda.
Takeda misses the jab.
Jones blocks a jab.
Takeda displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.
Takeda throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like George Jones has been cut.
Takeda tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.

Takeda moves into the clinch successfully.
Takeda works on Jones's body with a couple of short punches.
Takeda wants to get back to striking at distance but Jones won't allow it.

Takeda breaks from the clinch.
Takeda lands with a right hand.
Takeda moves out of range of the strikes.

Jones takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Takeda instigates a clinch.
Jones looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Takeda dodges an elbow strike from Jones.
Jones trying to land knees to the body.
Takeda lands an elbow that stopped Jones in his tracks for a moment.

Takeda manages to break the clinch.
Jones walks forward, straight into a front kick from Takeda.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Takeda throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
Jones misses with a looping right.
Takeda tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Takeda counters with a one-two to the body.
Takeda lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Jones backs up against the cage.
A swing and a miss from Takeda.
Takeda lands a glancing blow to the side of Jones's head.

Takeda throws a jab when Jones was well out of range.
Jones misses with an uppercut. Takeda saw that one coming.
Jones tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Takeda counters with a lovely straight right hand!


Jones is rocked!


George Jones's cut is getting worse.

Takeda closes the distance and pushes Jones back into the cage.

Takeda manages to break the clinch.
Jones connects with a single shot there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones tries to clinch up
and Takeda counters with a good low kick that Jones was not able to check.
Takeda closes the distance looking to clinch

and Jones counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Takeda pushes Jones back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Takeda with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Takeda working hard to break the clinch.

Takeda's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.
Takeda makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Takeda pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jones takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Takeda throws a hook but Jones avoids it easily.
Takeda stalks Jones and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jones's face. Jones staggers backwards, shaken.
Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Takeda cracks Jones with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Jones tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Takeda pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Jones is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shingo Takeda!
