Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Andreev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Justin James will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrei Andreev!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Justin James!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Edson Gomes and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James throws a nice head kick!
James misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
James throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Andreev.
Andreev fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Andreev fails with a takedown attempt.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James stuffs the takedown attempt from Andreev. Andreev gets slowly back to his feet.

Andreev shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. James manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
James is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


James fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Andreev dives in and grabs James's left leg, looking for a takedown. James pushes down on Andreev's head and hops out.

James changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Andreev shoots for a takedown but James saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

James with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
James throws a front kick that sends Andreev stumbling back into the cage.

James gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Andreev to score an easy takedown into full guard.
James is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Andreev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Andreev's legs - danger averted.

James is fighting to break Andreev's control of his arms but Andreev is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


James tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Andreev misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
James scores with a push kick.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Andreev throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around James's waist but James gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Andreev off to one side.
Andrei Andreev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Andreev tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

James gets caught flat footed, as Andreev shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Andreev slips nicely into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Andreev seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Andreev seems to be working for a kimura but James defends the submission attempt.

James is doing well to control the position and prevent Andreev from advancing to side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
James fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Andreev looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

It looks like Andrei Andreev has been cut.

James slaps away a takedown attempt from Andreev, before circling back to the center of the mat.
James throws a head kick that misses.
James scores with a hook to the body. Andreev takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Justin James seems to be getting the better of the standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
James throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

James is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Andreev rather than just go for the knockout.

Andreev shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with James but James pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A left lands for James.
Andreev avoids the head kick by James.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Andreev shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Andreev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Andreev shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Andreev was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Andreev swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and James is now in Andreev's guard. A big mistake from Andreev there, giving up the dominant position!
James advances to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
James content to control rather than advance.
Justin James is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Andreev is refusing to be controlled, as James sits in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Justin James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got James winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
