PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pig Halperin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guss Griswald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Halperin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Griswald is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: I Set My Friends On Fire - Aiden. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Guss Griswald!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Franklyn Lucas and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griswald wants to clinch.
Halperin throws a quick inside leg kick.
Guss Griswald seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Griswald is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Halperin uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Griswald.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Halperin feints and then cracks Griswald's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Griswald down.

Halperin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Griswald.
Griswald doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Halperin scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

and Halperin makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Halperin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Halperin connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Griswald's hands.

Griswald should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Halperin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Halperin scores with a one two! Griswald had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Halperin wants to stand but Griswald is controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Griswald throws a low kick but Halperin avoids it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Griswald doesn't manage to clinch there - Halperin circles away.
Griswald blocks a low kick nicely.
Halperin ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Griswald tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Halperin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Halperin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pig Halperin will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Griswald closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Halperin to the mat! Halperin manages to get full guard.
Halperin wants to stand but Griswald is controlling the position.
Griswald pushes down on Halperin's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Griswald's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Griswald stops Halperin from getting back to his feet.
Griswald is pressing down on Halperin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Halperin is holding on for now.
Griswald is controlling the pace.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Halperin wants to get back to his feet.

Griswald content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Halperin tries to kick Griswald off but Griswald keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Halperin tries to kick Griswald off in order to stand up. Griswald Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Griswald works to advance to full mount. Halperin defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Halperin is trying to stand up.
Halperin trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Griswald has hold of Halperin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Halperin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Halperin is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Griswald controlling his opponent.

Griswald is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Halperin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Halperin is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Griswald has taken his back!

Griswald is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Halperin is defending well though. Griswald let's go of the attempt for now.
Halperin controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
