Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tim Johns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Vanderbilt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tim Johns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Vanderbilt!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johns shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johns drops back looking for a leg! Vanderbilt is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vanderbilt manages to kick Johns off! Johns jumps back into Vanderbilt's guard.

Vanderbilt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Johns forces his way into half guard.

Johns looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Vanderbilt pushes Johns off looking to stand but Johns dives back in and keeps control.
Vanderbilt is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Johns stands up from half guard.

Johns fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vanderbilt, pushing him back against the cage.
Johns gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Vanderbilt.
Johns tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Vanderbilt jumps into guard, dragging Johns to the mat.

Johns has gone for a leg lock! Vanderbilt slips out almost immediately though and dives into Johns's guard.
Johns is breathing heavily.

Johns is working an open guard so Vanderbilt takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Vanderbilt is looking to reverse the position.
Vanderbilt pushes Johns away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Johns gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Johns decides to stand back up. Johns steps back and let's Vanderbilt get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Johns will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Johns shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Johns has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Vanderbilt's face.

Vanderbilt has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Johns's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vanderbilt holding both Johns 's hands and preventing any damage.
Johns is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Vanderbilt up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Johns's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Vanderbilt is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Johns off. It looks like it's working - Johns slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Vanderbilt displaying calm under pressure there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vanderbilt wants to control but Johns postures up.

and Vanderbilt counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johns won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Vanderbilt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Johns to his feet.

Johns drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Johns decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Vanderbilt, up you get!

Well Johns has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
