The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savenok is looking to clinch but Velasquez is avoiding it.
Velasquez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Savenok.
Savenok looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Savenok wants to control from the top but Velasquez keeps moving.
Savenok stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Velasquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Savenok stands up and waves to Velasquez to follow him.
Savenok misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Savenok stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Velasquez.
Velasquez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Savenok avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Savenok shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Velasquez pinned against the cage. Velasquez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kain Velasquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Denis Savenok.
Savenok closes this distance looking for a takedown but Velasquez circles away.
Velasquez throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Savenok.
Velasquez tries a head kick but it misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Velasquez moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Velasquez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Some wild striking there from Savenok.
Velasquez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
No luck for Savenok with that takedown attempt.
Savenok doesn't manage to clinch there - Velasquez circles away.
Velasquez swats away the attempt to clinch by Savenok.
Whack! Velasquez lands a heavy head kick that drops Savenok. The ref tackles Velasquez to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Savenok was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Kain Velasquez!
