PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vitaly Kanashkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marvin Meis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meis has chosen marvelous time as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vitaly Kanashkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marvin Meis!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kanashkin has Meis up against the cage in a clinch.
Meis can't get the takedown.
Kanashkin is looking to break free of the clinch but Meis has double underhooks.

Meis has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kanashkin uses from the top position.

Meis throws a strike but Kanashkin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Meis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Meis wants to get back to his feet but Kanashkin passes into half guard.
Meis is staying active underneath Kanashkin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No joy there for Kanashkin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Meis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kanashkin wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kanashkin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Meis fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Meis drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kanashkin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kanashkin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kanashkin!

Meis shoots in and bounces Kanashkin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Meis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kanashkin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Meis is in close to Kanashkin's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Meis wants to pass the guard but Kanashkin is keeping the position.

Kanashkin pushes Meis off and scrambles back to his feet.
Kanashkin throws a right and a left that both miss.

Meis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kanashkin to the mat! Kanashkin manages to get full guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Meis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kanashkin's guard.
Kanashkin wants to sweep but no luck.
Meis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Marvin Meis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Meis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kanashkin avoids it really well and circles away.

Meis drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kanashkin pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kanashkin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Meis closes the distance and pushes Kanashkin back into the cage.

Meis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kanashkin pushes Meis away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Meis gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Meis looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Kanashkin is avoiding damage well.
Kanashkin is trying to control Meis's posture but Meis avoids it.
Kanashkin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Meis goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kanashkin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Meis but great work by Kanashkin.

Kanashkin takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Meis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kanashkin.

Meis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kanashkin is on top in guard.

Marvin Meis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Meis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
