The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields looks to land a combination but murphy avoids it well.
Shields leaves murphy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
murphy is looking to clinch.
Shields misses with a kick to the body.
Horrible takedown by murphy or perhaps it was just good defense by Shields which made him look bad.
murphy throws a hook to the side of Shields's head but Shields sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
murphy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Shields sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Shields is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. murphy doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shields.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Shields looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks murphy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Shields has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shields in particular looking to stall.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shields working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Shields controlling the pace for now.
Shields breaks from murphy's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shields is landing with some decent strikes but murphy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shields bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps murphy's head backwards.

Shields shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in murphy's guard.
murphy controls Shields momentarily but Shields frees himself.
Shields content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
murphy wants to control but Shields passes easily into half guard.
Shields is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. murphy turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Shields off and cradles murphy's limp body as Shields celebrates with his corner.
