PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ransom Metz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and steven SUBzero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Metz comes to the cage accompanied by Not Afraid. steven SUBzero will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ransom Metz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, steven SUBzero!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Metz is looking to clinch but SUBzero is avoiding it.
Metz is looking to clinch.

Metz closes the distance and clinches.
SUBzero is working for takedown but Metz is calmly controlling the position for now.

Metz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Metz moves in looking to clinch but SUBzero pushes him off.

Metz closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. SUBzero did well to prevent Metz getting side control.

SUBzero is trying to stand back up but Metz is controlling him
Metz is stalling here. SUBzero is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Metz seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and SUBzero has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

SUBzero is looking to take a break and control but Metz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Metz obliges.
SUBzero looks gassed!

Metz is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. SUBzero can't fight it off and eventually Metz manages to take the fight to the floor. SUBzero looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Metz drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and SUBzero dives on top into guard.

Metz throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Metz looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but SUBzero puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Metz wants to stand but SUBzero is controlling the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as SUBzero accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

SUBzero shoots in and bounces Metz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Metz wants to control the position but SUBzero says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Metz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

SUBzero fails with the takedown

and Metz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Ransom Metz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of steven SUBzero.
SUBzero is refusing to be controlled, as Metz sits in half guard.
Metz not doing much here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Metz is working for a submission of some sort.
Metz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but SUBzero does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.

SUBzero ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. SUBzero no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
SUBzero looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Metz trying to control the position from guard on top but SUBzero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Metz decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Metz rushes SUBzero and presses him up against the cage.

Metz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
SUBzero dodges the punch combination from Metz.
SUBzero tries to close the distance and clinch up but Metz swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Metz counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Metz.
Metz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Metz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Metz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Metz counters with a nice double leg into side control. SUBzero won't be happy with that.
Metz wants to control but SUBzero is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

SUBzero regains half guard there - taking advantage of Metz's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
SUBzero keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
SUBzero regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Metz.
SUBzero is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Metz is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Metz stuffs the takedown attempt from SUBzero. SUBzero gets slowly back to his feet.
SUBzero is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
SUBzero fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Metz throws a left and a right that both miss
and SUBzero counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

and Metz counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
SUBzero jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Metz walks away with a smile on his face. SUBzero gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Metz moves into the clinch successfully.

Metz breaks from the clinch.

Metz clinches up with SUBzero and pushes him back against the cage.

Metz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Metz is looking to clinch but SUBzero is avoiding it.
SUBzero lands with a nice combination. Metz backs away looking to recover.

Metz shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Metz working over SUBzero with some ground and pound. SUBzero looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
SUBzero throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Metz is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and SUBzero reverses the position - he's now on top in Metz's guard.

Metz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Metz pulls SUBzero in close to prevent any damage.
SUBzero wants to control from the top but Metz keeps moving.

SUBzero looking to sit in guard and control but Metz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Metz wants to take a breather but SUBzero is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Metz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
