PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Time (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Time!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim closes the distance and clinches up with Time, looking for a takedown. Kim pushes Time against the cage but Time circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Time tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kim swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kim swats away the attempt to clinch by Time.
Time stuffs the takedown.
A left and a right from Time both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Dan Kim has been cut.
Time leaves Kim with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Time pushes Kim up against the cage in a clinch.
Time pressing his opponent against the cage.
Time is trying to break the clinch but Kim is controlling him.

Time successfully pulls guard.

Kim tries to free his leg and advance position but Time is retaining full guard.
Kim tries to stand but Time is controlling from the bottom.
Time doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Time wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kim postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Time is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kim thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Time shoots for a takedown but Kim saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Time shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kim as he avoids it easily.
Kim displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Time.
Time moves in looking to clinch but Kim pushes him off.
Kim slaps away a takedown attempt from Time, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Time tries to clinch there but Kim circles away.
Kim fails with a takedown attempt.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Time!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Time tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kim swivels and escapes.
Time looks gassed!
Time wants to clinch up but Kim keeps it at a distance.
Kim changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Time tries to avoid it but Kim manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Time to the ground. Time escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Time throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kim's waist but Kim gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Time off to one side.
Time doesn't manage to clinch there - Kim circles away.
Kim fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Time closes the distance and clinches up with Kim, looking for a takedown. Time pushes Kim against the cage but Kim circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Time stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Time wants it to stay on the feet.

Kim shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Time pinned against the cage. Time gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Time as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Time instigates a clinch.

Kim manages to pull guard.
Kim wants to sweep but no luck.
Time postures up.
Time controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Time throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kim wants to stand up but Time is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Time is looking to work some ground and pound but Kim has wrist control.
Kim wants to sweep here but Time controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Time throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Time tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kim is trying hard to land a takedown here. Time sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kim wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Time can't get the takedown.
Time has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kim avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Time pulls guard successfully.
Time is adopting a defensive guard.
Kim postures up.

Time working for a triangle but Kim defends it easily.

Kim drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kim jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Time has his foot on Kim's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kim works his way back into a safe position though.

Time defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Kim's arms.
Time really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kim. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kim has the hooks in. Time is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Kim is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Time knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Time for a finish.

Time is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kim gets his way!
Time just trying to survive but Kim is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Kim is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Time has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kim has Time pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kim pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Time tumbling to the mat - Kim dives into Time's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Time wants to clinch.

Time fails with the takedown.
Dan Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Time.
Time's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Time duly obliges.
A bone on bone clash there as Time blocks the leg kick.
Time fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Time doesn't manage to clinch there - Kim circles away.

Kim shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Time manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kim with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Kim is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Dan Kim overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Time can do anything to dispel that myth.
Time controlling Kim's posture.
Kim trying to stand up but can't free himself from Time's guard.
Time is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dan Kim showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
