PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Geoffrey King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). King has chosen King of my Castle by Wamdue Project as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Geoffrey King!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard looks to score with a jab to the body but King is just out of range.
King lands a jab.
Howard checks a leg kick.
Howard ducks down and throws a hook to the body but King moves away.
Howard slips a jab from King.
King has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from King there as he acknowledges the shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Howard. King does a little dance to reset his feet.
A leg kick checked by Howard.
Howard looks to land a right hand but King moved out of range.
King ducks under a wild hook from Howard.
Howard lands a jab to the head.
John Howard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King thows a body shot but no joy.
King keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Howard.
King throws a half hearted mid kick.
King lands a nice looking kick to the body. Howard takes a step back to recover.
King shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Howard misses with a hook to the body
and King counters with a stiff right hand.
King takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
King steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Howard.
King pushes Howard away with a front kick.

Howard moves away from the strike by King.
King throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Geoffrey King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Howard misses with a shot to the body
and King counters with a good low kick that Howard was not able to check.

Howard gets the takedown into side control.
King regains half guard.
Howard thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed King's head.
Howard lands with a punch from half guard.
Howard thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Howard not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Howard with the ground and pound but King uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Howard with a flurry of punches that miss.
Howard throws and elbow that misses. King uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Howard's guard. Nice move by King!

Howard has an active guard here but King has managed to pass into half guard.
King is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Howard is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

King stands up from mount. Strange move.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Howard drops his hands momentarily and King takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
King thuds his shin into the meat of Howard's side.
Howard moves out of range of the body kick from King.
King scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Howard swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Howard throws an overhand right that lands on King's shoulder, as King tries to avoid the shot.
King thumps Howard with a low kick.
Howard is breathing heavily.
King throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Howard sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Howard misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from King.
Howard throws out a loose jab but King uses good head movement to avoid it.
Howard thows a left - swing and a miss!
King lunges at Howard with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Howard's hand.
King lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Howard at a distance.
A telegraphed right hand from Howard misses the target.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Howard is on the wrong end of a nice combination from King.
King lands a nice looking body shot.
King throws a hook but Howard avoids it easily.
A slapping leg kick lands for King.
King changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Geoffrey King dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

King lands a nice leg kick that just misses Howard's sensitive parts.
Geoffrey King seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by King.
King swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Howard.
King lands a jab to the nose.
This has been an exciting period of action!
King connects with a right hand. Howard shakes it off.
King is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
King cracks Howard with a good jab.

Howard tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
King changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Howard takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Howard takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

King has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
King lands a nice looking body shot.
King thuds his right hand into Howard's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oh Howard is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

King cracks Howard with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. King has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Howard to stand back up!
King walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Howard drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! King swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Howard's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
