PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Inge Grepp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rand James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Inge Grepp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rand James!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grepp shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says James as he avoids it easily.
Grepp misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
James is looking to clinch.

Grepp shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in James's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Grepp accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Grepp drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and James dives on top into guard.

Grepp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but James can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Grepp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grepp swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grepp looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there.

James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

I looks like James might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Grepp swats him away and circles back towards the center.

James thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Rand James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Rand James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well James has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
