PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Uriel Amok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Amok comes to the cage accompanied by Devils. Rogers is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: American Badass by Kid Rock. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Uriel Amok!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Amok fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rogers manages to avoid it.

Amok fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rogers, pushing him back against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Amok working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Amok blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Amok.
Rogers has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Amok avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Rogers scores with a knee to the head.


It looks like Uriel Amok has been cut.
Amok can't find room to land a body shot as Rogers controls the action.
Amok drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rogers misses with the head strike.
Rogers misses with a punch on the inside.
Amok tries a body shot but Rogers blocks it.
Amok tries to throw a body punch but Rogers avoids it by throwing Amok back against the cage.
Rogers swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Rogers tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Amok's elbow.
Rogers is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Rogers is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Amok is keeping busy.
Amok blocks an uppercut.
Amok managing to block the knees to the body from Rogers.
Amok trying to control the position but instead, Rogers has worked for underhooks and has pushed Amok into the cage.
Amok lands a nice uppercut.
Amok prevents a body shot from Rogers.
Amok digs a right hand into Rogers's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Rogers's gas tank.
Amok on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Rogers is fighting off a takedown attempt but Amok is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rogers to the mat. Rogers regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Amok slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Rogers wants to sweep but Amok has passed to side control!
Amok postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Amok is chipping away with strikes.
Amok looking to control but instead Rogers has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Amok takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Amok tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rogers knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Rogers moves into full guard.
Rogers looking for a sweep. Not yet Rogers, not yet.
Rogers working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Amok.
Amok has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Amok wants to pass the guard but Rogers is keeping the position.
Amok working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Amok lands a couple of elbows.
Amok with a nice head shot there.

Amok stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rogers swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Amok avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Amok lands a couple of digs.
Amok wants to control from the top but Rogers keeps moving.
Amok throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Amok's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rogers throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rogers fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Amok.
Rogers throws a leg kick but Amok sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Left hook, right uppercut from Rogers.

Amok fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rogers sprawls well initially but Amok persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Amok wants to pass the guard but Rogers is defending well.
Rogers is controlling Amok's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Amok prevents Rogers from improving his position.
Amok thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Amok throwing shots but Rogers is blocking nicely.

Rogers is refusing to be controlled, as Amok sits in half guard.
Amok thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Rogers to regain full guard.

Amok keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rogers's head.
Amok slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Amok wants to control from the top but Rogers keeps moving.
Amok tries to free his leg and advance position but Rogers is retaining full guard.
Amok passes Rogers's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Amok is just content to waste time from the top position. Rogers takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Amok in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Rogers keeping moving, preventing Amok from controlling successfully.

Rogers wants to sweep but no luck.

Rogers throws his legs up looking for a submission but Amok uses it to pass to side control.

Amok wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rogers keeps working.
Amok lands a decent elbow from side control.
Rogers gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Rogers is wriggling around trying to escape.
Rogers is squirming around, avoiding Amok's attempts to control the action.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The referee warns Rogers that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Amok lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rogers hang on?
Rogers is trying desperately to improve position.
Rogers is breathing heavily.
Amok controlling from the full mount.
Amok can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rogers is looking to escape.
Rogers takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Amok misses the jab.
Rogers stuffs the takedown attempt from Amok. Amok gets slowly back to his feet.
Rogers displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Amok.
Amok lands a body shot.
Rogers shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Amok pinned against the cage. Amok gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Rogers checks a leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amok closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rogers circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Uriel Amok. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Amok ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Amok keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Rogers's efforts to push away.
Rogers tries to work over Amok's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Rogers creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Steve Rogers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Amok is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Rogers gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Rogers is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Amok is defending well for now.
Amok tries for a takedown but Rogers manages to get underhooks.

Rogers pushes off an throws an elbow but Amok leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Rogers has clasped his hands together around Amok's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
I wouldn't like to be where Amok is right now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Amok is refusing to be controlled, as Rogers sits in half guard.
Rogers not landing any meaningful shots this time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nice sprawl there from Amok as Rogers shoots in.
Rogers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rogers takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Rogers throws a leg kick but Amok moved away.

and Amok connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Uriel Amok is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Amok lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Uriel Amok is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Amok works the jab nicely.
Rogers fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Amok.
Amok fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Rogers throws a nice outside leg kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Uriel Amok.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Amok, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
