PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sepe Seppa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uij Ustj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ustj is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Strapping Young Lad - You suck. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sepe Seppa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Uij Ustj!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Seppa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Seppa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Seppa has hold of Ustj's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ustj manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Ustj keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Seppa goes for an armbar but Ustj turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ustj.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Seppa is trying to control the position but Ustj postures up.

Seppa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ustj defends it easily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ustj fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Seppa, pushing him back against the cage.

Seppa gets control of Ustj's arms and successfully pulls guard. Seppa will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Ustj is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ustj loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Seppa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ustj doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ustj manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Seppa not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ustj is looking to work some ground and pound but Seppa has wrist control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Seppa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Seppa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Seppa is working for a guillotine from mount but Ustj frees his head quite easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Seppa is breathing heavily.
Ustj is desperately trying to improve his position but Seppa has a good base and remains in mount.

Seppa is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ustj to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ustj shrugs it off.
Ustj is in all sorts of trouble here.

Seppa tries to control but Ustj wriggling away.
Seppa wants to take his opponent's back but Ustj doesn't allow it.

Seppa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ustj is looking to escape.

Seppa working for a guillotine from mount but Ustj is in no mood to give up.

Ustj is in all sorts of trouble here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ustj sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Seppa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Ustj trying to control from the bottom.

Seppa looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Seppa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ustj doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Seppa.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sepe Seppa dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ustj throws a looping overhand right but Seppa ducks down to avoid it.

Ustj shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Seppa bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ustj's guard.

Seppa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Seppa wants to control from the top but Ustj keeps moving.
Seppa wants to pass the guard but Ustj is keeping the position.
Seppa won't allow Ustj to sweep him here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Seppa misses with a takedown

and Ustj counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Seppa's guard now.
Ustj is fighting to break Seppa's control of his arms but Seppa is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Ustj drops back looking for a leg! Seppa is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Seppa manages to kick Ustj off! Ustj jumps back into Seppa's guard.

Seppa is trying to hold Ustj in close to prevent damage but Ustj has managed to pass into half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Seppa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Seppa makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Seppa.
Ustj in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Ustj must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ustj seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Seppa is looking for a triangle here but Ustj uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Seppa stops Ustj from passing to mount.
You can see the frustration on Seppa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Uij Ustj showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Ustj doesn't manage to clinch there - Seppa circles away.

Ustj is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Seppa's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Seppa! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Ustj has tapped! This one is allllll over!
