PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Still (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zero Udala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Udala has chosen The Beach Boys - Wouldn't it be nice as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Zero Udala was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Still!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zero Udala!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksandr Martynov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Still changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Udala looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Udala takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Udala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Still. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Still prevents Udala from escaping the position.
Still tries to advance to mount but can't.

Still looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Still scoring with punches from side control.

Still is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Udala knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Udala prevents Still from moving into mount.
Still lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Still wants to control but Udala is keeping him busy.
Udala tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Still is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Udala is defending well though. Still let's go of the attempt for now.
Udala is trying to stand back up.
Still lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Udala.
Udala is trying to get back to his feet but Still has full control of the position and if anything, Udala has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Still has Udala flattened out and is raining down punches.

Still is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Udala avoids the strikes from Still.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Udala controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Still has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Udala has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Udala is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Still throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Udala wants to get back to his feet.
Still is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Still gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Still gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Still apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Udala looks gassed!

Still drives through with a takedown into guard.
Still trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Still works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Still stops Udala from getting back to his feet.
Udala is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ground and pound from Still.
Still passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Udala!

Still is working for a guillotine from mount but Udala frees his head quite easily.

Still working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Udala wants to try and get back to his feet.
Still landing shots from mount.
Still scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Udala?
Udala is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Still in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Still is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Still lands with some strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Udala takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Still looking to finish Udala with some ground and pound. This is bad for Udala!
Still lands with some strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Still unloading with bombs!
Still fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Still with shots to the head and body - Udala looks very uncomfortable down there.

Still working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Udala really wants to buck Still off and get back to his feet.

Still wants to finish this one by submission but Udala is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Still.
Still postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Udala looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Still gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Still looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Udala!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Still dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Still has a takedown stuffed.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Still.
Still fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Still. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Still bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Still closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Udala pushes Still off looking to stand but Still dives back in and keeps control.
Still thows a huge punch but Udala dodges it nicely.
Udala looks like he's trying to stand up.

Still seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Udala is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Matt Still!
