PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Flash McPuggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dog Gamma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Flash McPuggins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dog Gamma!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gamma digs a good body shot into McPuggins's ribs.
McPuggins with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A head kick misses from Gamma.
Gamma fails to land with a series of punches.

Gamma throws a left that rocks McPuggins and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Gamma dives into side control, looking to finish! Can McPuggins regain composure!


McPuggins is rocked!


It looks like Flash McPuggins has been cut.
Gamma is working McPuggins over with some ground and pound from side control.
Oh McPuggins is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gamma throwing shots but missing, from side control.
McPuggins is letting Gamma control him for a moment.
McPuggins seems to have got his legs back now.
McPuggins stops Gamma from passing to mount.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Let's hope that Gamma has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Gamma trying to control the action but McPuggins is working from the bottom.
Gamma controlling from side mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dog Gamma.
McPuggins blocks a head kick by Gamma.
Gamma throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McPuggins.
Gamma fails to land the takedown.
McPuggins circles away from the clinch attempt.
McPuggins wants to clinch.
Flash McPuggins is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gamma feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Gamma postures up in McPuggins's guard and throws a big left but McPuggins blocks it.
Gamma sitting in guard, not really doing much.
McPuggins preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
McPuggins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gamma seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gamma keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of McPuggins's head.
Gamma slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gamma with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dog Gamma dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Flash McPuggins's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McPuggins lands a front kick.

Gamma lands a big shot that drops McPuggins! Can he finish him?
McPuggins avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gamma controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gamma looking to sit in guard and control but McPuggins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McPuggins gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gamma wants to clinch but McPuggins slips to the side
and McPuggins counters with an outside leg kick.

Gamma drives through and clinches with McPuggins against the cage.
McPuggins with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Gamma lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Gamma lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Gamma drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gamma avoiding damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gamma misses with a hook to the ribs.
Gamma slowing the pace effectively.
Gamma misses with the head strike.
Gamma wants to break the clinch but can't.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
McPuggins pushes off an throws an elbow but Gamma leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
McPuggins misses with an elbow strike.
McPuggins lands a nice elbow.
Gamma is looking to break free of the clinch but McPuggins has double underhooks.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Gamma obliges.
Gamma is stalling here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gamma works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Gamma throwing strikes but missing.
Gamma is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gamma pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McPuggins is keeping the position for now.
Gamma with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gamma throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McPuggins works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gamma wants to control from the top but McPuggins keeps moving.
Gamma loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gamma trying to control but McPuggins is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gamma tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McPuggins was well out of range. Poor timing from Gamma.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dog Gamma showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


McPuggins scores with a kick to the midsection.
Gamma rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McPuggins moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gamma looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Gamma misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Gamma fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McPuggins sprawls well initially but Gamma persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
McPuggins is staying active underneath Gamma, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gamma wants to pass to mount but McPuggins is defending the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gamma throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gamma content to control rather than advance.
Gamma wants to lay and pray for a moment but McPuggins keeps working.
Gamma keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Dog Gamma is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dog Gamma.
Gamma throws a combination. McPuggins tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Gamma circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gamma pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gamma misses the body punch
and McPuggins counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Gamma misses with a few strikes there.

Gamma clinches up with McPuggins and pushes him back against the cage.
Gamma has a couple of punches blocked by McPuggins.
Knees to the body from McPuggins.
Gamma is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
McPuggins tries to land knees in the clinch but Gamma avoids the damage to the body.
McPuggins tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Gamma avoids it.
Gamma blocks the elbow strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Stalling in the clinch from Gamma.
McPuggins misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Gamma.
Gamma digs a right hand into McPuggins's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on McPuggins's gas tank.

McPuggins is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gamma is defending well for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dog Gamma comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gamma has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
