Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hossam Merenhor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocky Thoma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thoma has chosen eye of the tiger - surviour as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rocky Thoma!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merenhor shoots for a double leg takedown but Thoma sprawls well. He's pushed Merenhor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Thoma tries to keep at a distance but Merenhor has taken the fight into the clinch.

Thoma pulls Merenhor into guard.
Merenhor thows a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Merenhor throws and elbow that misses. Thoma uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Merenhor's guard. Nice move by Thoma!
Thoma pushes down on Merenhor's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Still in half guard, Thoma seems content to control.

Thoma is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

It looks like Rocky Thoma has been cut.
Thoma should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Thoma feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Merenhor lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Thoma circles away quickly and effectively.

Merenhor escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Thoma has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Merenhor finds it's way round the side to connect with Thoma's head.

Merenhor bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Thoma's head.
Thoma is breathing heavily.
Merenhor takes a swing at Thoma's ribcage but misses.

Thoma takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Merenhor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A telegraphed right hand from Merenhor misses the target.

Hossam Merenhor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Merenhor swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Thoma.
Merenhor lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Thoma backs up against the cage.

Merenhor wants to clinch but Thoma slips to the side

and Thoma counters with a single leg into guard. Merenhor didn't expect that.
Thoma is pushing down on Merenhor's leg trying to pass to half guard. Merenhor is fighting to maintain full guard but Thoma has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Merenhor is not content to let Thoma control the position.
Thoma perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thoma wants to control but Merenhor is keeping him busy.

Thoma slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Thoma takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
