PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Martyn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and josh reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Martyn might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Live For The Moment. Thomas Martyn has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Martyn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, josh reed!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
reed tries to close the distance and clinch up but Martyn swats him away and circles back towards the center.
reed throws a head kick but Martyn moves out of range.

reed shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Martyn's guard.
Martyn looking to control.
reed working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Martyn wants to stand and escape but reed is having none of it.
reed scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
reed passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Martyn is looking for a sweep.
reed misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

reed looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Martyn is avoiding damage well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

reed closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Martyn to the mat! Martyn manages to get full guard.
reed tries to free his leg and advance position but Martyn is retaining full guard.
reed really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martyn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

reed stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martyn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

reed won't allow Martyn to get back to his feet.
Martyn is breathing heavily.
reed throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Martyn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Martyn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Martyn misses with a series of wild punches.
Martyn looks for the body kick but reed saw that one coming.

reed closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
reed throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Martyn works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

reed postures up in Martyn's guard and throws a big left but Martyn blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

reed throws and elbow that misses. Martyn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in reed's guard. Nice move by Martyn!

reed is looking to stand back up but Martyn counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by reed.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Martyn keeps the fight on the outside.
reed tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Martyn paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Martyn throws a sloppy head kick and reed moves out of range easily.
reed fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Martyn tries to clinch up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Martyn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from reed.
Martyn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A head kick misses from Martyn.
Martyn lands a nice leg kick that just misses reed's sensitive parts.
Martyn goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Martyn pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
reed shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Martyn as he jumps to the side.
Thomas Martyn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of josh reed.
reed takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
reed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and reed wants it to stay on the feet.
Martyn throws a head kick that misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
reed avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

reed drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Martyn is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked reed off and has taken his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Martyn shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. reed is trying to defend but Martyn finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

reed's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Martyn is going oldschool here, as he tries to force reed to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so reed shrugs it off.
Martyn unloads with some shots from mount but reed bucks and avoids them well.

reed is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
reed is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Martyn breaks from reed's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Martyn is working for a guillotine from mount but reed frees his head quite easily.
reed squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Martyn won't let reed get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Martyn connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
reed is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Martyn cracks reed with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
reed really wants to buck Martyn off and get back to his feet.

Martyn throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for reed because Martyn loaded up on that one.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

reed fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Martyn sprawls well initially but reed persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Martyn regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from reed.
Martyn is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Martyn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in reed's guard.

reed wriggles free and stands up.

and Martyn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
reed wants to stand and escape but Martyn is having none of it.

Martyn gets to his feet. reed looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Martyn circles away from the clinch attempt.

reed wants to get back to his feet but Martyn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Martyn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. reed doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. reed manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Thomas Martyn.
I think Martyn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
