PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Umberto Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clint Field (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Field has chosen Rage Against The Machine - People Of The Sun as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stone closes the distance and clinches.
Stone has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Field avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Field scores with a shoulder strike.
Field misses with a body punch.
Field wants to break free but Stone has control.
Field fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Stone tries to pull guard but Field won't allow it.
Stone goes for a takedown in the clinch but Field prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Umberto Stone. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Field breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Stone drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Field pushes Stone away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Stone gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Field is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Field can do anything to dispel that myth.
Stone tries to score with some ground and pound. Field controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Stone is nestled in close to Field, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Field pushes Stone off looking to stand but Stone dives back in and keeps control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Stone's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Stone seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Field for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Umberto Stone.
Field throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Stone is looking to take a break and control but Field is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Field is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Stone asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Stone is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Stone connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Field some visible discomfort.

Field is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Stone is controlling him well.
Stone is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Field will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Stone scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Field to see if he's OK.

Clint Field seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Field misses with a low kick.
Field clinches but Stone breaks the clinch

and Stone counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Field closes the distance looking to clinch

and Stone counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Field!

Stone sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Stone has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Stone lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Field hang on?
Stone takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Field really wants to buck Stone off and get back to his feet.

Stone scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Stone looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Stone has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Field's face.
Stone is landing with some decent strikes but Field is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Field takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Umberto Stone just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Stone feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Stone seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stone, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
