PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edwin Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edwin Drago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
No luck for Drago with that takedown attempt.
Drago tries to score a power double leg takedown but Patterson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Drago somewhat.

Patterson darts in and clinches Drago up against the cage.

Patterson drags the fight down to the ground.
Patterson pulls Drago in close to his closed guard and prevents Drago from doing any damage or advancing position.

Drago drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Drago jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Patterson looking for a sweep. Not yet Patterson, not yet.

Drago is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Patterson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Patterson has escaped and now he's on top!

Drago is working an open guard so Patterson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Patterson leaves Drago with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edwin Drago. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Drago looks to clinch

and Patterson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Patterson pulls Drago into guard.

Drago drops back, looking for a kneebar! Patterson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Patterson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Patterson!
Drago is breathing heavily.
The referee asks Patterson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Patterson prefers to stall for the moment though.
An elbow from Patterson crashes against the mat.
Drago tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Patterson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Drago's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Patterson tries to advance to mount but Drago denies him.
Patterson lands a decent elbow from side control.

Patterson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Patterson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Patterson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Drago knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Patterson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Drago. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Patterson stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Drago closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Drago lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Drago postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Patterson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Drago, into his guard.

Drago is trying to keep Patterson in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Patterson dominated that round.
That's time! Drago's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Drago gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Patterson moves into the clinch.

Patterson decides to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Patterson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Drago is one step ahead there.

Drago thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Drago postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Patterson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Drago, into his guard.
Patterson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Drago has his foot on Patterson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Patterson works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Patterson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Patterson advances to half guard.
Patterson stalling.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Patterson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drago won't allow Patterson to pass to mount.
Drago trying to control but Patterson postures up.
Drago gets back to full guard.
Patterson trying to control but Drago is working from the bottom.

Drago pulls Patterson in close to prevent any damage.
Patterson showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Drago looking for a guillotine here but Patterson defends easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Patterson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Drago is looking for a triangle here but Patterson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Drago is trying to work for a sweep but Patterson has mounted him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Patterson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Patterson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Drago's half guard.
Drago is trying to maintain the position but Patterson is very close to passing his half guard.
Drago is not content to let Patterson control the position.

Patterson wants to work for an arm triangle but Drago is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Drago is trying to control but can't.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Drago makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Drago.

Drago trying to keep a closed guard but Patterson is proving a slippery customer.

Patterson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Drago has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Patterson has managed to get both his arms back between Drago's legs - danger averted.
Anthony Patterson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Drago escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Patterson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Patterson is looking to stand up but Drago won't let him.
Patterson wants to pass the guard but Drago is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Patterson wants to get up but he can't break Drago's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Patterson pushes down on Drago's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Drago wants to control but Patterson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Drago is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Patterson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Drago is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Patterson pulls his head out easily.

Patterson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Drago tries for a takedown but Patterson circles away easily

and Patterson counters with a single leg into guard. Drago didn't expect that.
Patterson trying to control the position from guard on top but Drago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Drago looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Drago keeping moving, preventing Patterson from controlling successfully.
Drago controls Patterson momentarily but Patterson frees himself.
Patterson slips nicely into half guard.

Patterson is thwarting Drago's attempts to control the position.

Drago is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Patterson pulls his head out easily.

Drago looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Drago trying to hold on to Patterson's head to control him but Patterson postures up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Patterson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Patterson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
