PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between King Slender (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Redd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redd has chosen We Will Rock You as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that King Slender has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily King Slender seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redd shoots in but no luck this time.
Slender lands a slapping body shot.
Slender lands a jab.
Redd has a takedown stuffed.
Horrible takedown by Redd or perhaps it was just good defense by Slender which made him look bad.
King Slender has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Redd.
Redd fails with the takedown.
Redd shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Redd closes the distance and clinches up with Slender, looking for a takedown. Redd pushes Slender against the cage but Slender circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Redd jumps guard but Slender stands there with Redd around his waist. Redd gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Redd manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Redd is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Slender not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Redd had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Slender defends it easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Slender decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Slender leaves Redd with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Slender drives through and clinches with Redd against the cage.

Redd gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Slender throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Redd stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Redd shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Slender sprawls well. Slender wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Redd gets slowly back to his feet.
Redd tries to move into range but Slender moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Slender scores with a jab to the jaw.
Slender tries to clinch but Redd moves out of range.
Jake Redd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Redd takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Redd throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Redd is trying to ground and pound but Slender uses the momentary lack of control by Redd to regain half guard.
Redd has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Slender connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Redd momentarily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Redd misses with a takedown attempt - Slender sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Redd is breathing heavily.
Redd drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

It looks like Jake Redd has been cut.
Redd shoots for a takedown but Slender saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Redd with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Slender to score with a decent uppercut.

Slender fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Redd, pushing him back against the cage.
Redd has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Slender is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Redd working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Slender doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Slender manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Redd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Slender avoids it really well and circles away.

Slender scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Redd on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Redd is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Slender can't fight it off and eventually Redd manages to take the fight to the floor. Slender looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Redd stays in close to Slender's body and controls the position.
Redd slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Redd in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Redd is looking to take a break and control but Slender is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Redd looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Slender is avoiding damage well.
Slender knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Redd on the ground.

Jake Redd has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Redd throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Slender works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to King Slender.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Slender, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
