PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carson Cools (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AJ Robles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that AJ Robles was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carson Cools!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, AJ Robles!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cools scores with a takedown into Robles's guard.
Cools would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Cools working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Robles wants to sweep here but Cools controlling him for the moment.
Robles controls Cools momentarily but Cools frees himself.
Robles has Cools pulled in close to control his posture.
Robles not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Cools wants to control from the top but Robles keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cools fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Robles tries for a takedown but Cools circles away easily

and Cools counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cools.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Robles is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Cools decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Robles, up you get!

Cools shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cools showed some decent athleticism there.
Robles is trying to control but Cools passes into side control!

Cools is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Robles knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Cools is looking to take a break and control but Robles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Cools has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Robles can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Robles decides to stand back up. Robles steps back and let's Cools get back to his feet.

Carson Cools overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Robles wants to get back to full guard but Cools has mounted him!
Robles is squirming around, avoiding Cools's attempts to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Robles is wriggling around trying to escape.

Robles wants to control but Cools is having none of it.
Cools looking to control but Robles is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Cools landing strikes from the mount and Robles is in trouble!
Robles is looking to improve his position but Cools isn't that keen on the idea.
Cools avoids the attempt from Robles to control.

Cools controlling the position easily from mount.

Robles can't escape the position.
Robles in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Cools controlling the pace for now.
Robles is trying to reverse the position but instead Cools has taken his back - oops!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
I really don't envy Robles right now.
Robles is trying to get back to his feet but Cools has full control of the position and if anything, Robles has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Cools is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Cools has the hooks in. Robles is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Robles looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Cools looking for the RNC.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Carson Cools will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Cools clinches up with Robles and pushes him back against the cage.

Cools manages to pull guard.
Cools is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Robles slips nicely into half guard.
Cools wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Robles controlling the pace.

Cools looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Cools has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Robles is working away from the top position though.
Cools tries to roll over but Robles keeps him under control.
Robles throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Robles wants to control but Cools is keeping him busy.

Robles stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Robles stalks Cools and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cools's face. Cools staggers backwards, shaken.

Robles shoots in and bounces Cools off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Robles wants to control from the top but Cools keeps moving.

Robles avoiding damage as Cools throws knees to the body.
Robles has Cools pressed against the cage, preventing Cools from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Cools tries to break free but Robles pushes him back against the cage.
Cools drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Robles gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Robles wants a takedown but no success here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cools turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Cools manages to end up in side control.
AJ Robles has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Carson Cools is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cools wants to control but Robles is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to AJ Robles.
I think Cools has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
