PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Penn BJ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gliz Rockrain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rockrain is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Superheros by Racer X. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Penn BJ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gliz Rockrain!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rockrain fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rockrain fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rockrain looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
BJ really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rockrain shoots for a takedown but BJ saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Penn BJ has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gliz Rockrain.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rockrain looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rockrain closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rockrain lands in his opponent's guard.
Rockrain being controlled here momentarily.
BJ is looking to stand up but Rockrain isn't so interested in that idea.
BJ is adopting a defensive guard.

Rockrain trying to control but BJ is working from the bottom.

Rockrain got a little sloppy there for a moment and BJ has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rockrain has managed to get both his arms back between BJ's legs - danger averted.
Rockrain stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. BJ swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rockrain has gone for a leg lock! BJ slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rockrain's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
BJ stopping the sweep attempt from Rockrain.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
BJ looking to pass the guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Rockrain is looking for a triangle but BJ pushes his legs off easily.
BJ has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rockrain looks gassed!
BJ missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
BJ throwing strikes but missing.
BJ advances position into side control!
BJ lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Rockrain is trying to improve his position.
Rockrain regains half guard.
Rockrain taking some punishment here, with BJ in his half guard.
BJ will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rockrain is looking to improve his position.
BJ drops an elbow to the side of Rockrain's head.
BJ takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
BJ throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
BJ is nestled in close to Rockrain, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
BJ trying to control the action but Rockrain is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
BJ looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rockrain with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
BJ takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Rockrain blocking the ground and pound attempt from BJ.

BJ is nestled in close to Rockrain, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
BJ looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rockrain with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
BJ winds up and cracks Rockrain with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Rockrain looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Rockrain is looking for a sweep. BJ is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rockrain fails to land the takedown.

BJ looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Rockrain wants to improve his position but BJ is controlling well.
BJ lands with a punch from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Penn BJ dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Rockrain shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Rockrain scores a takedown into full mount!
BJ tries to lock up and control but Rockrain gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
BJ slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Rockrain wants to control but BJ is keeping him busy.
BJ is trying to stand up here but Rockrain is controlling him well.

BJ has one foot on Rockrain's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Rockrain has his takedown stuffed

and BJ counters with a shoot takedown. Rockrain fights it but they end up in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
BJ is in close to Rockrain's body, working some short punches and elbows.

BJ avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rockrain is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

BJ is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
BJ working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rockrain's head.
Rockrain keeping moving, preventing BJ from controlling successfully.
BJ throws and elbow that misses. Rockrain uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in BJ's guard. Nice move by Rockrain!
Rockrain pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. BJ is keeping the position for now.
Rockrain is fighting to break BJ's control of his arms but BJ is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rockrain trying to control the position from guard on top but BJ is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
BJ is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rockrain trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but BJ manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Rockrain utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rockrain is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
BJ is looking to escape.

BJ trying to control from the bottom.
BJ tries to kick Rockrain off but Rockrain keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
BJ is controlling Rockrain's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rockrain in particular looking to stall.
BJ is looking to control Rockrain's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can BJ avoid being mounted?
Rockrain trying to mount his opponent but BJ defends it.
Rockrain wants to control but BJ is keeping him busy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

BJ gets the takedown into side control.
Rockrain tries to get back to half guard but can't.
BJ passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Rockrain!

BJ with a couple of short strikes.
BJ thowing shots but they're missing.
Rockrain tries to hold on but BJ postures up.
BJ in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Rockrain is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Penn BJ dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

BJ wants to get back to his feet but Rockrain is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Rockrain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rockrain wants to control from the top but BJ keeps moving.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as BJ holds on and takes a little breather.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
BJ wants to get back to his feet but Rockrain is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Rockrain pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. BJ is keeping the position for now.
BJ is controlling Rockrain's posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and BJ counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Rockrain preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Rockrain had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. BJ defends it easily.
Rockrain is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst BJ is controlling him.

BJ postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

BJ has gone for a leg lock! Rockrain slips out almost immediately though and dives into BJ's guard.
Rockrain passes easily into side control. Nice work.
BJ wants to control but Rockrain postures up.
BJ is not content to let Rockrain control the position.
A control attempt from BJ but he's now mounted!
Penn BJ overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rockrain looking for a guillotine from mount but BJ is having none of it.
BJ can't escape the position.
BJ tries to lock up and control but Rockrain gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rockrain wants to control but instead BJ manages to regain half guard.
BJ trying to control but Rockrain postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
BJ is not content to let Rockrain control the position.
BJ wants to get back to his feet.
Rockrain wants to lay and pray for a moment but BJ keeps working.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
BJ swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Rockrain.
Gliz Rockrain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rockrain doesn't succeed with the takedown

and BJ counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Penn BJ is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rockrain is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
BJ controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Penn BJ.
Well BJ has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
