PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between big black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manny Masato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think black might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to my life. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, big black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Manny Masato!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
black blocks a head kick by Masato.
Masato leaves black with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
black walks into a stiff left hand from Masato.
black on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Masato looks to land a body kick but black moved away.
Masato throws a series of punches but black avoids them all with ease.

black shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Masato manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
black slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
black looking to sit in guard and control but Masato gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
black wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

black has a closed guard, preventing Masato from standing up.

black working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Masato doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Masato manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
black pulls Masato in close to prevent any damage.

Masato stands up from black's guard - Masato perhaps looking for a knockout.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
black misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Masato looks to land a body kick but black moved away.

black is breathing heavily.

Masato gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Masato wants to get back to his feet but black is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that big black will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

black swinging wildly here.
Masato drops his hands momentarily and black takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
big black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Masato keeps the fight on the outside.
black fails in his attempt to clinch.
black shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Masato as he jumps to the side.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
black throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

black looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Masato is squirming around, avoiding black's attempts to control the action.

Masato avoids a series of strikes thrown by black.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Masato can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Masato is squirming around, avoiding black's attempts to control the action.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Masato takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

black moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Masato has worked his arm free - good work by Masato!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of big black.

and Masato counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
black tries to close the distance and clinch up but Masato swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

black throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Masato was covering up waiting for the punch and black finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Masato gets to his feet - black follows without any prompting.
A low kick from black misses
and Masato counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Masato takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

black decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Masato is defending against the submission attempts here by black.

black seems to be looking for submissions.
black thows a huge punch but Masato dodges it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

black is trying to work for a kimura but Masato is defending well.
black is pressing down on Masato's thigh, looking to free his foot. Masato is holding on for now.
black content to control rather than advance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
black will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Masato wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but black has him pressed against the cage.

black manages to pull guard.
big black is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
black is trying to control the position but Masato postures up.
black has Masato pulled in close to control his posture.

black has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Masato can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
big black showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for black, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
