PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ichabod Klopfenstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob McGill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Klopfenstein comes to the cage accompanied by Freebird. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ichabod Klopfenstein !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jacob McGill!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Klopfenstein tries to clinch there but McGill circles away.
McGill misses with a low kick.
Jacob McGill seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McGill.
Klopfenstein takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
McGill shoots for a double leg takedown but Klopfenstein sprawls well. He's pushed McGill's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
McGill throws a solid leg kick but Klopfenstein takes the impact on his shin and smiles at McGill.

Ichabod Klopfenstein has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacob McGill.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGill wants to free his trapped foot but Klopfenstein is holding on for dear life with his legs.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McGill thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The fight stays on the outside here - Klopfenstein looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
McGill throws a hook to the side of Klopfenstein 's head but Klopfenstein sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

McGill throws a low kick but Klopfenstein moves out of range easily.

It looks like Jacob McGill has been cut.
McGill lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Klopfenstein backwards.
Klopfenstein misses with a hook from the clinch.
McGill goes for a takedown in the clinch but Klopfenstein prevents it.

That was a close round but I would say that Ichabod Klopfenstein will probably get the nod.

Jacob McGill showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Klopfenstein displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McGill.
McGill throws a lazy right hand but Klopfenstein sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Klopfenstein takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Klopfenstein feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McGill working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Klopfenstein doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Klopfenstein manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Klopfenstein wants to control from the top but McGill keeps moving.
Klopfenstein is really struggling to control McGill but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Klopfenstein has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Klopfenstein accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
McGill manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Klopfenstein manages to get himself to full guard.

McGill drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Klopfenstein manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McGill has Klopfenstein in his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Klopfenstein makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

McGill is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McGill lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Klopfenstein !
McGill throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
McGill takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
McGill can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Klopfenstein is looking to escape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

McGill jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Klopfenstein manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Klopfenstein sneaks back into half guard.
McGill uses his free foot to push down on Klopfenstein 's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Klopfenstein .
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A nice elbow there by McGill.
Klopfenstein wants to control but McGill is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ichabod Klopfenstein .
I think Klopfenstein has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
