PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gregor Mendel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesus Tabs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendel comes to the cage accompanied by Lambada. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Reed Andrews and Anthony Taglia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendel throws a hook but Tabs blocks it.
Mendel looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Mendel shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tabs napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendel decides to stand back up. Mendel steps back and let's Tabs get back to his feet.
Mendel shoots in but no luck this time.
Mendel tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Tabs swivels and escapes.

Mendel wants to hold on but Tabs pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendel is trying to control the action in half guard but Tabs is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mendel is taking a breather. Tabs says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Tabs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mendel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

and Tabs makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Tabs can't do much from the bottom here.
Tabs might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mendel kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Tabs is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mendel to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mendel shrugs it off.

Mendel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tabs swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mendel is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Tabs gets his way!
Tabs is trying to stick to Mendel's back but Mendel is turning into Tabs. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Tabs's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Mendel.

Well Tabs has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
