PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Rau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Rau!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Rau throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Smith.

Rau shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Smith makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Smith.

Smith throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rau doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rau manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smith has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Rau has passed into side control.

Rau tries for a kimura but Smith is defending well.

Smith tries to bench press Rau off him but Rau keeps the position.

Smith tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Rau presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Smith is looking to get to half guard.
Rau looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Smith is in all sorts of trouble here.

Rau lands a big elbow.

Smith takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rau lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

A nice elbow there by Rau.
Oh Smith is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Smith tries to reverse the position but Rau maintains control.
Smith seems to have got his legs back now.
Smith is breathing heavily.
Rau with good strikes from the mount here!
Smith is wriggling around trying to escape.

Smith takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Rau looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Smith is working to get back to half guard.

Rau with a couple of short strikes.

Rau pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
A nice elbow there by Rau.
Smith tries to reverse the position but Rau maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rau is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Smith can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Rau looking for a guillotine from mount but Smith is having none of it.
Rau in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rau has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rau looking to secure an arm triangle but Smith defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Rau dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rau shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smith sprawls well. Smith wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rau gets slowly back to his feet.
Joe Rau seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice sprawl there from Rau as Smith shoots in.

Rau closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rau lands in his opponent's guard.
Rau with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rau works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.
Rau is breathing heavily.

Rau drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rau jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Smith wants to sweep but no luck.

Smith is looking to sinch up a triangle. Rau throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Smith's body to avoid the submission. Smith has instead reached around Rau's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Smith arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Victor Smith!
