PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Dux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Hawla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Hawla's choice of entrance music: Ten Thousand Fists. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Johnny Hawla was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Frank Dux!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Johnny Hawla!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dux avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hawla tries to clinch there but Dux circles away.
Hawla lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dux circles away quickly and effectively.
Dux slips a jab and a cross from Hawla.
Hawla stuffs the takedown attempt from Dux. Dux gets slowly back to his feet.
Hawla tries to clinch but Dux is having none of it.
Dux will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Dux shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hawla napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hawla wants to control but Dux postures up.
Hawla regains half guard.

Dux is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hawla defends it well.

Dux is trying to work for a kimura but Hawla is defending well.

Dux is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hawla is just riding it out for now. Dux eventually gives up the hold.

Hawla pushes Dux off looking to stand but Dux dives back in and keeps control.

Dux seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hawla does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Dux shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hawla defends it nicely.

Hawla rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dux moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hawla tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dux swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hawla tries to bum rush Dux with a series of wild strikes but Dux uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dux closes the distance and clinches up with Hawla, looking for a takedown. Dux pushes Hawla against the cage but Hawla circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Dux will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Dux takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Dux looks for a takedown but Hawla sprawls well.

Dux dives in and grabs Hawla's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hawla pushes down on Dux's head and hops out.
Dux fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Dux swats away the attempt to clinch by Hawla.
Hawla slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Hawla tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dux swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hawla moves in looking to clinch but Dux pushes him off.

Dux looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hawla is fending him off so far but Dux persists. Nope, Hawla circles away and we're back to standing.
Dux shoots in looking for a takedown. Hawla tries to sprawl out of it but Dux keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hawla manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hawla takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Hawla throws a sloppy head kick and Dux moves out of range easily.
Dux keeps the fight on the outside.
The fighters circling - Hawla throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Dux moves out of range of the body kick.

Hawla takes the fight into the clinch.
Hawla lands a hook that snaps the head of Dux backwards.
Dux has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hawla is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Dux is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hawla works on Dux's body with a couple of short punches.
Hawla looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A nice right hand lands inside from Hawla.
Dux avoids a wild elbow strike from Hawla.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nice takedown defense from Hawla. No joy for Dux on that attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hawla looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Dux feints and as Hawla raises his hands in defense, Dux changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Dux thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Dux got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hawla has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dux has managed to get both his arms back between Hawla's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hawla manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dux manages to get himself to full guard.
Hawla throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dux works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hawla is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dux is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dux has escaped and now he's on top!

Hawla uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Hawla takes a swing at Dux's ribcage but misses.
Hawla bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Dux's head.
Hawla tries to close the distance and clinch but Dux swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hawla wants to clinch up but Dux keeps it at a distance.
Dux has a takedown stuffed.
Hawla comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Hawla throws a lazy head kick

and Dux counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hawla won't be happy with that.

Dux swings around for an armbar but Hawla sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Dux's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hawla stands and steps away. Dux gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Dux keeps the fight on the outside.
Dux shoots in for a double leg but Hawla sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dux takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Hawla throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Dux counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hawla thinking.

and Dux decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hawla's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Dux drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hawla manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dux has Hawla in his guard.

Hawla has gone for a leg lock! Dux slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hawla's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dux drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dux jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Dux drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hawla looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hawla looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hawla!
Dux is not content to let Hawla control the position.
Hawla is working Dux over with some ground and pound from side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dux gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Dux is concentrating on defense, preventing Hawla from advancing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Frank Dux will probably get the nod.

Johnny Hawla comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hawla has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
