PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jared Walken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack Ripper is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jared Walken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Ripper!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ripper fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ripper is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A nice combination there by Ripper.

Ripper shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
It looks like Ripper is going to stand back up.

Walken on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Walken tries to get out of the position.
Walken makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Walken.
Ripper would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Walken is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Walken has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ripper is looking for a sweep. Walken is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Walken throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Walken slips a nice elbow through Ripper's hands, connecting with Ripper's forehead.
Walken is trying to control the action in half guard but Ripper is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Still in half guard, Walken seems content to control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Walken lands a nice short elbow.
Ripper wants to get back to full guard.
Walken throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Walken is pressing down on Ripper's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ripper is holding on for now.
Walken content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Walken is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Walken in particular looking to stall.
Ripper is looking for a sweep. Walken is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Walken controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Walken misses with a takedown attempt - Ripper sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Walken.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Walken is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ripper defends it well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Ripper wants to get back to his feet.
Ripper tries to roll over but Walken keeps him under control.

Ripper is breathing heavily.
Walken drops an elbow to the side of Ripper's head.
Walken tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ripper knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Walken is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Walken is keen to just control but Ripper is a slippery customer.
Walken is looking to stall here but Ripper recovers full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jared Walken.
Ripper throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Walken bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ripper takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ripper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Walken wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Walken lands a nice forearm strike.
Walken connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Ripper some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jared Walken dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Ripper misses with a looping left.
Ripper fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Walken shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Walken looking to control but Ripper is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Walken postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ripper looks a forlorn figure.
Ripper takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Walken can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ripper is looking to escape.

You get the feeling that Ripper really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Ripper tries to reverse the position but Walken maintains control.
Walken takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ripper is bucking up trying to escape but Walken cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Walken cracks Ripper with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ripper tries to lock up and control but Walken gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Walken wants to control the pace but Ripper is squirming around nicely.

Walken is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Walken!
