The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benton displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Payne throws out the jab.
Benton throws a shot to the body.
Payne throws a sloppy head kick and Benton moves out of range easily.
Benton takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Benton feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Payne's calf.
Payne tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Benton pushes Payne away with a front kick.
No joy there for Benton, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Payne paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

It looks like Sam Benton has been cut.

Payne misses with an uppercut. Benton saw that one coming.
Payne fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Benton manages to avoid it.
Benton lands with a shot to the body.
Payne moves out of range of the body kick from Benton.
Payne connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Benton momentarily.
Victor Payne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Benton jabs Payne right on the nose. Payne blinks but takes it well.

Payne steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Benton. That one must have hurt.
