PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gunther Wehlpapp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khun Mangkoc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khun Mangkoc will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gunther Wehlpapp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Khun Mangkoc!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wehlpapp takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Wehlpapp fails to land the takedown.

Mangkoc clinches with his opponent.

Mangkoc manages to break the clinch.
Mangkoc throws out a leg kick but Wehlpapp moves out of range and Mangkoc only half commits.
Wehlpapp throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mangkoc's waist but Mangkoc gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wehlpapp off to one side.

Wehlpapp tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

and Wehlpapp counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wehlpapp is breathing heavily.

Wehlpapp is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mangkoc defends it well.
Mangkoc tries to roll over but Wehlpapp keeps him under control.

Wehlpapp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mangkoc keeps working.
Wehlpapp prevents Mangkoc from standing back up.
Mangkoc is doing well to control the position and prevent Wehlpapp from advancing to side control.
Mangkoc wants to improve his position but Wehlpapp is controlling well.
Mangkoc wants to get back to his feet.
Mangkoc really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wehlpapp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mangkoc moves into the clinch.

Mangkoc escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mangkoc pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mangkoc doesn't manage to clinch there - Wehlpapp circles away.
Mangkoc on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Wehlpapp. Wehlpapp obviously looking to wear him down.
Wehlpapp shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mangkoc as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gunther Wehlpapp. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wehlpapp tries to bum rush Mangkoc with a series of wild strikes but Mangkoc uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Mangkoc gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wehlpapp controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Wehlpapp slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Mangkoc struggling a bit here.
Mangkoc is looking to regain half guard here but Wehlpapp keeps moving and retains side control.

Mangkoc prevents Wehlpapp from improving position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mangkoc can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mangkoc is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mangkoc is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on Mangkoc's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mangkoc is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Wehlpapp off and has taken his back!
Mangkoc has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Wehlpapp's body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wehlpapp just trying to survive but Mangkoc is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Wehlpapp holding both Mangkoc 's hands and preventing any damage.
Mangkoc controls the action.
Mangkoc is not going to allow Wehlpapp to sit and survive in this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gunther Wehlpapp will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Wehlpapp is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mangkoc is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mangkoc has escaped and now he's on top!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wehlpapp has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Mangkoc should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Wehlpapp has tightened it up now! Mangkoc should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
