PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Kennedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kennedy might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to MegaDeth - Symphony of Destruction. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Kennedy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oscar Perez!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Lou da Vinci and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kennedy misses with an attempted mid kick.
Kennedy throws a jab but it's blocked by Perez.
Perez is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
James Kennedy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kennedy.
Perez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kennedy's waist but Kennedy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Perez off to one side.
Perez shoots in looking for a takedown. Kennedy tries to sprawl out of it but Perez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kennedy manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kennedy looks to land a combination but Perez avoids it well.
Kennedy jabs at Perez's body.
Perez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
James Kennedy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oscar Perez.
Kennedy throws a shot from downtown. Perez moves away and avoids it.

Perez takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Perez fails to land the takedown.
Kennedy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Perez.
Good exchange - Kennedy coming out on top.
Perez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kennedy pinned against the cage. Kennedy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kennedy bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Perez's head.

Kennedy lands a left and a right that send Perez crashing to the mat, dazed. Kennedy thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Kennedy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Perez manages to avoid it.
Kennedy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Perez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kennedy circles away.
Kennedy jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kennedy throws a nice looking combination but Perez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Perez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Perez shoots in for a takedown but Kennedy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kennedy lands a jab to the head.
Perez looks gassed!
Kennedy lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Perez misses with a looping left.

Kennedy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Perez trying to remain calm as Kennedy controls from the top position.
Kennedy tries to advance position but instead Perez slips a leg back in to half guard.
Perez is staying active underneath Kennedy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perez wants to get back to full guard.
Kennedy not doing much here.
Kennedy missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kennedy connects with a nice short shot to Perez's temple.

Kennedy with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Kennedy trying to control the action but Perez is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kennedy looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Perez tries to get to full guard but Kennedy has control of the leg.

Perez looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kennedy scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Kennedy wants to stand but Perez has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Kennedy dominated that round.

Kennedy looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kennedy is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Perez throws a combination that misses

so Kennedy counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Perez is looking for a triangle but Kennedy pushes his legs off easily.
Kennedy with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kennedy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Perez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kennedy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Perez keeping moving, preventing Kennedy from controlling successfully.
Kennedy working some strikes from top position.

Perez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kennedy defends it easily.

Kennedy keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Perez's head.
Kennedy passes into half guard.
Perez wants to control but Kennedy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Perez looking for subs from the bottom but Kennedy mounts him!
Kennedy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Perez's face.
Perez is breathing heavily.
Kennedy scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Perez?
Kennedy controlling the pace for now.
Kennedy lands a heavy elbow.

Kennedy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Perez looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Perez is wriggling around trying to escape.

Kennedy moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Perez has worked his arm free - good work by Perez!
Perez tries to improve position but can't.
James Kennedy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Perez looking for a sweep but Kennedy has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Kennedy fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Perez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Perez is squirming around, avoiding Kennedy's attempts to control the action.
Kennedy lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Perez hang on?
Kennedy is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Perez is in all sorts of trouble here.

Kennedy working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Perez turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Kennedy off and cradles Perez's limp body as Kennedy celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). James Kennedy!
