The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jobber xXx keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

maia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jobber xXx tries to avoid it but maia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jobber xXx to the ground. Jobber xXx escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

maia shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jobber xXx's guard.

maia gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jobber xXx looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

maia looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Jobber xXx is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but maia has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jobber xXx parries the strikes from maia easily there. maia is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jobber xXx to escape.
Jobber xXx takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
maia just content to control the position.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Jobber xXx has eaten all the pies!
maia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jobber xXx for as long as he can get away with.
Jobber xXx takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

maia moves in looking to clinch but Jobber xXx pushes him off.

maia throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jobber xXx was covering up waiting for the punch and maia finishes the takedown easily into guard.
maia seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

maia sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jobber xXx's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

maia is taking a breather. Jobber xXx says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
maia lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of nathan maia.
