The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barton drops Diaz with a beautiful combination! Diaz stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Barton is looking for the KO!
It looks like Diego Diaz has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barton clinches with his opponent.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barton walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Barton looks to land a combination but Diaz avoids it well.
Barton lands an overhand right.
That has opened up Diego Diaz's cut even more.
Barton gets caught flat footed, as Diaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Barton pulls Diaz in close to his closed guard and prevents Diaz from doing any damage or advancing position.

Barton on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Barton tries to get out of the position.

Barton could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Diaz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Diaz postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Barton counters with a slapping leg kick.
Barton throws a big shot that misses.
Barton closes the distance and clinches.
Barton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barton darts in and clinches Diaz up against the cage.
Diaz tries to circle away but Barton has him pinned against the cage.
A short uppercut from Barton.
Barton breaks from the clinch.
Barton scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Diaz has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Diaz avoids a punch combination nicely.
A lazy left from Barton finds it's target.
The cut above Diego Diaz's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Diaz throws a lazy head kick
and Barton counters by clinching up.
Barton lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barton walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Barton forces Diaz back against the cage and clinches.
Diaz gets control of Barton's arms and successfully pulls guard. Diaz will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Barton gets to his feet - Diaz follows without any prompting.
Barton misses with an attempted mid kick.
Diaz clinches but Barton breaks the clinch
and Barton counters with a straight right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Diego Diaz's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Diaz blocks a head kick by Barton.
Barton misses with a jab, cross combination.
Barton closes the distance and clinches.
Diaz is trying to maintain a safe position but Barton gets an underhook and turns Diaz into the cage.
Barton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz takes a jab right on the kisser.
Barton works Diaz's body with a nice hook.
Joey Barton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Barton feints and then cracks Diaz's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Diaz down.

and Barton cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diaz tries to clinch up but Barton circles away and keeps his distance.
Diaz drops his hands momentarily and Barton takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Barton wants to clinch up but Diaz keeps it at a distance.
Barton lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Barton fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Diaz tries to land a leg kick but Barton saw it coming and moves away.
Barton digs a good hook to Diaz's body.
Diaz tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Barton counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Barton throws a wild body kick that Diaz sees coming a mile off.
Diaz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Barton!

Barton is controlling an arm, preventing Diaz from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Diaz looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Barton defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Diaz.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Barton is in all sorts of trouble here.
Diaz lands a heavy elbow.
Diaz throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Barton has his hands clasped together but Diaz breaks the hold and Barton is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Diaz!
