PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between QL Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baker has chosen Kanye West-Power as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Baker!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hicks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hicks wants it to stay on the feet.
Hicks scores with a three punch combo!
A slapping leg kick lands for Hicks.
Hicks smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Baker swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hicks avoids a punch combination nicely.
Baker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hicks circles away quickly and effectively.
Baker misses with a looping right.
Hicks moves out of range of the strikes.

Hicks scores with a takedown into Baker's guard.
Hicks working some strikes from top position.
Baker working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Hicks.
Hicks working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hicks postures up.

Baker keeping moving, preventing Hicks from controlling successfully.
Hicks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hicks content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Baker wants to stand but Hicks is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hicks throws and elbow that misses. Baker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hicks's guard. Nice move by Baker!
Baker tries to stand but Hicks is controlling from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Baker wanted to stand there but Hicks had control of the position.
Baker wants to control from the top but Hicks keeps moving.
Baker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hicks's guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A telegraphed right hand from Baker misses the target.
Baker lunges at Hicks with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hicks's hand.
Baker throws a shot from downtown. Hicks moves away and avoids it.

Baker defending well as Hicks loads up on a big left hand.
Baker lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hicks throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Hicks scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Baker shoots and misses
and Hicks counters with a straight right hand.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hicks. Baker does a little dance to reset his feet.
Baker takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Hicks misses with an uppercut.
Hicks will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
The fighters circling - Baker throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Baker lands a glancing blow to the side of Hicks's head.
Baker stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hicks avoids the body shot from Baker.
Hicks lands a glancing blow to the side of Baker's head.
Hicks throws a right hand that Baker ducks under and follows up with a left that Baker also avoids with ease.
Hicks looks to land a left hand but Baker moved out of range nicely.
Hicks ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Baker moves away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hicks moves away from the strike by Baker.
No luck for Hicks with that takedown attempt.
Hicks takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


Baker is rocked!
Hicks ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Baker's jaw. Baker's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Hicks does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). QL Hicks!
