Vanovcan has chosen Moskau as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gaines fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Vanovcan sprawls well initially but Gaines persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Vanovcan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Vanovcan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gaines gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gaines tries to free his leg and advance position but Vanovcan is retaining full guard.

Vanovcan controls Gaines momentarily but Gaines frees himself.
Gaines slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
