PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Funtime Panda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Karlov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yuri Karlov!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Panda gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Panda looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Karlov is fending him off so far but Panda persists. Nope, Karlov circles away and we're back to standing.
Karlov closes the distance and lands a one-two.

It looks like Funtime Panda has been cut.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ground and pound from Panda seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Panda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karlov keeps working.

Panda has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Panda misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Panda closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Karlov throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Panda has a takedown stuffed.

Panda shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Panda showed some decent athleticism there.
Karlov is trying to maintain the position but Panda is very close to passing his half guard.
Panda looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Karlov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Panda passes the guard and advances to mount!
Karlov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Panda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Karlov tries to reverse the position but Panda maintains control.
Karlov really wants to buck Panda off and get back to his feet.
Karlov is wriggling around trying to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Panda tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

A combination from Karlov does no damage.
Panda shoots in but no luck this time.
Karlov fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Panda is out of range.
Panda tries to score a power double leg takedown but Karlov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Panda somewhat.
Panda shoots in for a takedown but Karlov shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Funtime Panda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Karlov looks to land a combination but Panda avoids it well.
Karlov throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Panda slips a jab and a cross from Karlov.
Horrible takedown by Panda or perhaps it was just good defense by Karlov which made him look bad.

Karlov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Panda frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Panda wants to finish this one by submission but Karlov is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Panda.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Panda looking to control but Karlov is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Panda is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Karlov can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Karlov wants to hold on but Panda pushes him away.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Panda shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Karlov's guard.

Panda drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Panda jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Karlov wants to sweep but no luck.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Panda shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Karlov defends it nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Panda closes the distance and clinches up with Karlov, looking for a takedown. Panda pushes Karlov against the cage but Karlov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Panda checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Karlov scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Karlov lands a nice hook to Panda's body. Panda takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Karlov throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Karlov lands a left and a right that send Panda crashing to the mat, dazed. Karlov thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Panda is rocked!
Karlov lands a big uppercut and this one is all over! His foe lies motionless on the canvas - a massive one punch knockout!
