PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rex Libris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Rex Libris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcus Silva!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Libris is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Silva. No joy for Libris on that attempt.
Silva scores with a crisp jab that stopped Libris in his tracks.
Libris misses with a jab, cross combination.
Silva misses the shot to the body.
Libris tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Libris throws a series of strikes that have Silva backpedaling.


It looks like Marcus Silva has been cut.

Silva scores with a takedown into Libris's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Libris is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Libris on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Libris tries to get out of the position.

Libris escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Silva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Libris is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Libris knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Silva on the ground.
Libris is trying to buck Silva off.
Libris gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Libris tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Silva drops an elbow to the side of Libris's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Libris wants to get back to his feet.
Silva seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Libris pushes Silva off looking to stand but Silva dives back in and keeps control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Silva keeps the fight on the outside.
Libris shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Silva counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Silva looks for a takedown but Libris sprawls well.
Silva misses the jab.

Libris moves into the clinch.
Libris has Silva pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Silva manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rex Libris. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Libris pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Silva thows a left - swing and a miss!
Silva throws a good cross that connects.
Silva cracks Libris with an open hand slap.

Silva feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silva seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Libris shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely.

Libris tries to score a power double leg takedown but Silva sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Libris somewhat.

Silva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Libris sprawls well initially but Silva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Libris is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Silva is breathing heavily.

Libris has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Libris swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Libris looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Rex Libris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Libris momentarily.

Libris closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Silva to the mat! Silva manages to get full guard.

I've got Silva winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
