PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jose Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Sparrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jason Sparrow!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Silva chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Silva misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sparrow misses with a two punch combination.
Silva tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Silva misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Silva is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sparrow has his takedown stuffed
and Silva counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Silva tries to clinch there but Sparrow circles away.

Silva changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sparrow looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Silva content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Sparrow is looking to reverse the position.
Silva misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Sparrow tries to improve position but can't.
Silva trying to control the action but Sparrow is working from the bottom.
Silva sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Sparrow is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The ground and pound from Silva seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Silva wants to clinch up but Sparrow keeps it at a distance.

Sparrow fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Silva, pushing him back against the cage.

Sparrow successfully pulls guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sparrow is pulling down on Silva's head to control his posture.
Silva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sparrow keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.
Silva wanted to stand there but Sparrow had control of the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Silva content to stall in guard here.
Sparrow is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Silva postures up and lands a big shot to Sparrow's brow.
Sparrow can't keep his opponent in guard - Silva advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sparrow misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Silva thows a huge punch but Sparrow dodges it nicely.

Sparrow is holding on to half guard well.
Silva is trying to control the action in half guard but Sparrow is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Silva wants to clinch but Sparrow slips to the side

and Sparrow counters with a shoot takedown. Silva fights it but they end up in guard.
Sparrow controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Sparrow tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard.

Sparrow decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Silva, up you get!
Silva tries for a takedown but Sparrow sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Silva throws a shot from downtown. Sparrow moves away and avoids it.

Sparrow shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Silva's guard.
Sparrow must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sparrow postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sparrow drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sparrow jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Sparrow stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sparrow controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Sparrow landing with the ground and pound.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sparrow passes easily into side control. Nice work.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Sparrow in side control lands a decent elbow.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sparrow in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Sparrow tries to advance to mount but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Sparrow dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sparrow is trying to break the clinch but Silva has him pressed against the cage.

Sparrow breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Silva looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Sparrow throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Sparrow thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Sparrow keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.

Silva avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Silva wants to control from the top but Sparrow keeps moving.

Sparrow is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Sparrow has an active guard here but Silva has managed to pass into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sparrow keeps working.
Sparrow tries to get to full guard but Silva has control of the leg.
Silva is thwarting Sparrow's attempts to control the position.

Silva is nestled in close to Sparrow, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Silva closes the distance looking to clinch

and Sparrow counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sparrow decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Silva, up you get!
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sparrow pinned against the cage. Sparrow gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Silva thuds his shin into the meat of Sparrow's side.

Silva clinches with his opponent.
Silva lands with a right to the head.
Silva is looking to control Sparrow's arms but Sparrow gets an underhook and turns him. Now Silva has his back to the cage.
Silva has had enough of the clinch but Sparrow keeps him there for the moment.

Sparrow gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Silva is trying to control but can't.

Silva looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva tries to get to full guard but Sparrow has control of the leg.
Sparrow looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Silva has a hand on Sparrow's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Sparrow takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Silva is in all sorts of trouble here.

Silva is looking to improve his position but Sparrow isn't that keen on the idea.
Sparrow lands a nice shot to the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sparrow pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Silva is rocked!


It looks like Jose Silva has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sparrow with a couple of short strikes.
Oh Silva is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Silva has given up his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Sparrow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Jose Silva's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!



Sparrow shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Sparrow slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Sparrow lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Jason Sparrow!
