PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mc theus Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giorgio Vanderse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Giorgio Vanderse told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mc theus Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Giorgio Vanderse!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vanderse shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense.
Vanderse moves in looking to clinch but Silva pushes him off.

Silva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Vanderse did well to prevent Silva getting side control.
Silva trying to control from half guard but Vanderse is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva tries to pass to full mount but Vanderse defends it.
Silva trying to control the action but Vanderse is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Silva will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Silva is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Vanderse doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silva.
Vanderse has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Silva is working away from the top position though.
Vanderse looks gassed!

Silva is trying to control the action in half guard but Vanderse is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Silva shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Vanderse can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Silva controls the pace.
Vanderse trying to keep a closed guard but Silva is proving a slippery customer.
Silva controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Silva trying to control but Vanderse is working from the bottom.

Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vanderse is keeping the position for now.
Vanderse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Silva is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Vanderse tries for a takedown but Silva circles away easily

and Silva counters with a single leg into guard. Vanderse didn't expect that.
Vanderse is trying to keep Silva in close.

Silva content to stall in guard here.

Vanderse keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Vanderse moves in looking to clinch but Silva pushes him off.

and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mc theus Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Giorgio Vanderse.
Vanderse is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Vanderse shoots and misses

so Silva counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Silva works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Vanderse is defending against the submission attempts here by Silva.
Silva uses his free foot to push down on Vanderse's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Vanderse.
Vanderse tries to lock up and control but Silva gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Vanderse might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Silva kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Silva working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Vanderse tries to hold on but Silva postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vanderse is controlling an arm, preventing Silva from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Silva looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Silva can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vanderse is looking to escape.
Vanderse is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Vanderse wants to control but Silva is having none of it.

Vanderse defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Silva.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Silva fails to advance to Vanderse's back.
Vanderse is trying desperately to improve position.
Silva wants to take his opponent's back but Vanderse doesn't allow it.

Silva jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Vanderse is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Vanderse and Silva has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Vanderse sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Silva is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Vanderse has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Silva is working away from the top position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Silva is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Silva trying to control the action but Vanderse is working from the bottom.
Vanderse trying to control from the bottom.

Silva decides to stand up.
Vanderse stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vanderse wants it to stay on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vanderse lands a high kick!

Silva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Vanderse was covering up waiting for the punch and Silva finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Vanderse not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Silva wants to control from the top but Vanderse keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mc theus Silva dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Vanderse closes the distance looking to clinch

so Silva counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vanderse swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Silva wants to control from the top but Vanderse keeps moving.

Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vanderse looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vanderse looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vanderse!
Silva manages to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva is looking to improve his position.
Silva wants to get back to full guard but Vanderse has passed into side control.
Silva is wriggling around trying to escape.
Vanderse tries to control but Silva wriggling away.
Silva is trying desperately to improve position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vanderse content just to control the position here.
Silva is wriggling around trying to escape.
Silva slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Silva makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Silva.

Silva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Vanderse is aware though and is defending well.

Silva looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Vanderse has picked Silva up and slammed him! Silva can't keep hold of the triangle and Vanderse manages to pass to side control!

Silva is looking for a sweep.

Vanderse stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Giorgio Vanderse has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Silva looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Vanderse!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mc theus Silva showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Silva, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
