PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rudy Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and H Y Kwon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kwon has chosen TY$ - All Star as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rudy Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, H Y Kwon!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry tries for a takedown but Kwon circles away easily
and Kwon counters with a straight right hand.

Kwon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Perry is looking for a sweep. Kwon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kwon thows a huge punch but Perry dodges it nicely.
Perry is trying to get back to full guard.
Perry is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kwon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kwon's back!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Kwon has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Kwon avoids the strikes from Perry.
Kwon is trapped and Perry is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Perry gets his hands free as Kwon looks to control.
Kwon rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Perry thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kwon's head.
Perry blocks the strikes from Kwon.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kwon has one foot on Perry's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Perry doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kwon counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

and Kwon counters with a nice uppercut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rudy Perry. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Kwon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Perry's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Perry escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kwon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kwon drops back looking for a leg! Perry is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Perry manages to kick Kwon off! Kwon jumps back into Perry's guard.
Perry controls Kwon momentarily but Kwon frees himself.

Perry is looking for a triangle but Kwon pushes his legs off easily.
Kwon stands up over Perry, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Perry lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kwon!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Perry looking to finish with strikes here!
Kwon tries to reverse the position but Perry maintains control.
Perry punching from mount but Kwon doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Perry with shots to the head and body - Kwon looks very uncomfortable down there.

The referee warns Kwon that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kwon is desperately trying to improve his position but Perry has a good base and remains in mount.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

H Y Kwon dominated that round.
That's time! Perry's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Perry looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Perry lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Perry is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Kwon wants to control but Perry is keeping busy.
Kwon won't allow Perry to pass to mount.
Perry is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Kwon is pressing down on Perry's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kwon has control of Perry's left arm, preventing Perry from doing any damage.

Kwon wants to stand and escape but Perry is having none of it.

Perry drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kwon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kwon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kwon!

Perry has his foot on Kwon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kwon works his way back into a safe position though.

Kwon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kwon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kwon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perry swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Perry had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kwon defends it easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kwon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ground and pound from Kwon.
Perry wants to control but Kwon is keeping busy.
Kwon working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kwon perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kwon connects with a nice short shot to Perry's temple.
Kwon is nestled in close to Perry, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Perry is looking to get back to full guard here but Kwon has managed to pass to side control instead.
Perry tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kwon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kwon cracks Perry with a big elbow.
Perry is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Rudy Perry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kwon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Perry is just riding it out for now. Kwon eventually gives up the hold.

Kwon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rudy Perry will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Kwon makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Kwon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kwon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Perry has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kwon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kwon wants to control from the top but Perry keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by H Y Kwon.

Kwon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Perry has escaped the position, nice work there.
Perry manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kwon won't allow Perry to pass to mount.
Kwon is positioning himself well to prevent Perry advancing to mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
H Y Kwon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kwon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
