PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Auron Almasy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashad Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Almasy comes to the cage accompanied by Ram Jam - Black Betty. Jackson has chosen Mortal Kombat as his entrance music. Auron Almasy has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Auron Almasy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rashad Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Almasy to the mat! Almasy manages to get full guard.
Almasy looking to control.
Almasy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jackson's guard.
Jackson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Almasy puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Almasy is keen to just control but Jackson is a slippery customer.

Almasy is looking for a kimura but Jackson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Almasy to get the leverage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Almasy scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Almasy wants to work for an arm triangle but Jackson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Almasy is working for a kimura but Jackson is defending it quite comfortably.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Almasy wants to stand up but Jackson has a hold of him and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jackson wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Auron Almasy will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jackson takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Jackson dives in and grabs Almasy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Almasy pushes down on Jackson's head and hops out.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Jackson goes for an armbar but Almasy turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Almasy.
Almasy trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jackson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Almasy has passed into side control.

Almasy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Almasy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Almasy wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Auron Almasy dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Jackson avoids the head kick by Almasy.
Almasy tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jackson shoots for a takedown but Almasy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Almasy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jackson to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Almasy is trying to keep Jackson in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Almasy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jackson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Almasy has his foot on Jackson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jackson works his way back into a safe position though.
Jacksonis looking to pass into half guard but Almasy pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Almasy is in guard.
Almasy tries to free his leg and advance position but Jackson is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jackson throws his legs up looking for a submission but Almasy uses it to pass to side control.
Jackson is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackson is not content to let Almasy control the position.

Almasy tries for a kimura but Jackson is defending well.
Auron Almasy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Almasy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Almasy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Auron Almasy.
Well Almasy has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
