PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Syrian Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manuel Loco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Loco has chosen IM & GMS - Arabian Knights On Mescaline as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Syrian Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Manuel Loco!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Loco dives in and grabs Santos's left leg, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes down on Loco's head and hops out.
Santos keeps the fight on the outside.
Santos misses with a double jab.

Loco changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Santos looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Santos defending against the ground and pound.
Santos parries the strikes from Loco easily there. Loco is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Santos to escape.
Santos is trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Loco thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Loco is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Santos is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Santos prevents Loco from moving into mount.

Loco tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Loco stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Loco counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Loco.

Loco has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Santos regains guard immediately.
Loco postures up in Santos's guard and throws a big left but Santos blocks it.
Loco keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Santos's head.
Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Loco is controlling him.
Loco wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.
Santos wants to stand up but Loco is controlling him.

Santos wants to get back to his feet but Loco passes into half guard.
Loco thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Loco throwing shots but Santos is blocking nicely.
Loco scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Loco is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Santos defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Santos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Loco drives through and clinches with Santos against the cage.

Loco has Santos pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Loco pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Santos tumbling to the mat - Loco dives into Santos's guard.
Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Loco is controlling him.

Loco has gone for a leg lock! Santos slips out almost immediately though and dives into Loco's guard.

Loco is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Santos thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Loco is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Loco is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Santos working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Loco throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

You can see the frustration on Loco's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Loco throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Loco is trying to get back to half guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Santos lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Loco backs up against the cage.
Santos displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Horrible takedown by Santos or perhaps it was just good defense by Loco which made him look bad.
Santos misses with a few strikes there.
Nice sprawl there from Santos as Loco shoots in.

Loco looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Santos is looking to escape.

Loco throwing shots but Santos is blocking nicely.
Loco not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Santos keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Loco seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Santos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Loco performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Santos looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Syrian Santos will probably get the nod.
That's time! Santos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Loco shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Santos napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Santos is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Loco has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Santos avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Loco.
Santos is pushing Loco's head away, looking to escape. Loco manages to hold on to the position though.
Loco postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Loco goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Santos has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Loco but great work by Santos.
Loco takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Loco is trying to get back to half guard.
Loco is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Santos thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Loco is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Santos's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Loco is looking for a sweep. Santos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Loco kicks off Santos and gets to his feet.
Santos looks to land a combination but Loco avoids it well.
Loco shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Santos sprawls well. Santos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Loco gets slowly back to his feet.
Loco tries to clinch but Santos moves out of range.
Loco avoids a punch combination nicely.
Santos fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Loco wants to clinch up but Santos keeps it at a distance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Loco dodges the punch combination from Santos.
Loco closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Santos lands with a nice combination. Loco backs away looking to recover.
Santos lands with a right hand.
Loco shoots in but Santos avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Santos counters with a shoot takedown. Loco fights it but they end up in guard.
Syrian Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manuel Loco.

Santos drops back looking for a leg! Loco is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Loco manages to kick Santos off! Santos jumps back into Loco's guard.
Santos might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Loco not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Manuel Loco.
I think Loco has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
