Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Wilkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Valdez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Valdez acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Wilkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carlos Valdez!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wilkins's waist but Wilkins gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Valdez off to one side.
Valdez throws a push kick but Wilkins slaps the foot to one side.

Valdez clinches up against the cage.
Valdez tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Valdez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Valdez stops a takedown attempt from Wilkins.
Wilkins fails to pull guard.

Wilkins manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Valdez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wilkins dives on top into guard.

Wilkins drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wilkins jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Wilkins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Valdez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wilkins has managed to get both his arms back between Valdez's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Valdez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wilkins tries to avoid it but Valdez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wilkins to the ground. Wilkins escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Valdez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Valdez wants to control but Wilkins is keeping him busy.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Valdez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Valdez tries to free his leg and advance position but Wilkins is retaining full guard.
Valdez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wilkins is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Valdez is controlling him.

Valdez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Wilkins looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Wilkins looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Wilkins!
Valdez is not content to let Wilkins control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Valdez is trying to get back to half guard.

Valdez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Valdez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wilkins pulls his head out easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wilkins fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wilkins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Valdez sprawls well. Valdez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wilkins gets slowly back to his feet.

Good leg kick by Wilkins there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Valdez counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Wilkins!

Wilkins defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Valdez.

Valdez goes for an armbar but Wilkins turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Wilkins.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Wilkins misses with a takedown attempt - Valdez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Valdez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wilkins is trying to defend but Valdez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
