PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Obama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ming Ong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George Obama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ming Ong!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obama tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ong swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ong looks gassed!
Obama moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ong misses with a wild body shot.
Obama looks to throw the jab but Ong is out of range.

Obama fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ong, pushing him back against the cage.
A short body shot lands from Obama as the two fighters clinch.
Obama makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Obama breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Obama fails in his attempt to clinch.
Obama lands a really nice looking cross but Ong seems unphased.
Obama fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ong looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Obama wants to clinch up but Ong keeps it at a distance.
Ong loads up on a big right hand but Obama slips the punch.
Obama wants to clinch up but Ong keeps it at a distance.
Obama lands with a thumping leg kick.
Ong moves out of range of the strikes.
Ong throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Ong takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Obama lands with a cross.
Obama tries to clinch up but Ong circles away and keeps his distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Obama connects with the punch.
Obama uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ong.
Obama throws a low kick, looking for Ong's leg but Ong calmly moves out of range.
Obama lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Ong takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Obama rushes Ong and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ong pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Obama misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ong stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Ong swats away the attempt to clinch by Obama.
Obama fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ong lands with a nice combination. Obama backs away looking to recover.

Obama clinches.

Ong escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Obama tests Ong's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Obama doesn't manage to clinch there - Ong circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ong lands the left hand.
A punch combination from Ong misses.
Ong throws a low kick but Obama avoids it.
Obama stuffs the takedown.

Obama closes the distance and clinches.
Obama lands a body punch.

Obama's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ong comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ong shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Ong slips a jab from Obama.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ong.
Ong wants to control for a moment but Obama uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ong has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Obama defend it? Ong steps over the head and cranks it - Obama is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Ong!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ming Ong!
