PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between ben ahr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Matthew Perez was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matthew Perez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
ahr scores with a three punch combo!


It looks like Matthew Perez has been cut.
Perez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
ahr ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
ahr tries to score a power double leg takedown but Perez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten ahr somewhat.
ahr tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Perez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Perez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Perez gets caught flat footed, as ahr shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
ahr stands up over Perez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Perez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as ahr controls the pace.
ahr will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Perez tries to keep at a distance but ahr has taken the fight into the clinch.

ahr has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Perez uses from the top position.

ahr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

ahr breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Perez counters with a body kick.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
ahr tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Perez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Perez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Perez wants to control but ahr is having none of it.

ahr gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
No luck with that takedown attempt from ahr.

ahr lands a nice leg kick that just misses Perez's sensitive parts.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Perez leaves ahr with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for ben ahr. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Perez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Perez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Perez unloads with some shots from mount but ahr bucks and avoids them well.

ahr sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Perez is stalling here. ahr is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Perez seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and ahr has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

ahr is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Perez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Perez looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Perez rolls, trying to escape but ahr keeps control of the position.
ahr is riding his opponent, not letting Perez buck him off.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
ben ahr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perez can't escape the position.

ahr is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Perez has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Perez tries to roll but ahr sticks to his back.
Perez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

ahr not allowing Perez to control his hands.
Perez breaks ahr's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Perez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Perez stands up from guard. Let's bang!
ben ahr is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Perez tries for a takedown but ahr circles away easily

and ahr counters with a single leg into guard. Perez didn't expect that.
Perez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Perez wants to get back to his feet but ahr is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perez is on top in guard.

Well ahr has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
