Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Rask!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Calabi Yau!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rask blocks a low kick nicely.
Rask fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Yau, pushing him back against the cage.
A short left from Yau.
Yau's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
With the fighters up against the cage, Rask throws an elbow but misses.
Yau wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rask keeps control of Yau as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rask breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rask tries to clinch but Yau is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yau is looking to land body kicks.
Rask shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yau but Yau pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Yau throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Mikko Rask seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice straight punches there by Rask. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Rask.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rask is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rask tries for a takedown but Yau sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Yau misses with a leg kick.
Rask tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yau sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rask somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikko Rask. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rask changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yau tries to avoid it but Rask manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yau to the ground. Yau escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Yau throws a looping overhand right but Rask ducks down to avoid it.
Rask tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yau swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Yau slaps away a takedown attempt from Rask, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rask looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yau is fending him off so far but Rask persists. Nope, Yau circles away and we're back to standing.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rask shoots in but Yau avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Yau attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Rask misses with a head kick.
Rask is breathing heavily.
Rask on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Rask takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Yau jabs at Rask's body.
Yau moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Jab by Yau.
Yau dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Yau throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Yau lands a big right hand that sends Rask crashing to the mat! Yau stays standing though and waves Rask back to his feet!
Rask is rocked!
Rask walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! Yau swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Calabi Yau!
