PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Eko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jjoor chicken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mr Eko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, jjoor chicken!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
chicken works over Eko's head and body with a nice combination.
Eko misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

chicken looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eko has a closed guard, preventing chicken from standing up.
Eko bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in chicken's guard.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - chicken has eaten all the pies!
Eko trying to control the position from guard on top but chicken is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Eko would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Eko throwing strikes from guard but chicken blocks nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Eko loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
chicken looking to hit a scissor sweep but Eko is one step ahead there.

chicken is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Eko trying to control but chicken is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
chicken showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Eko.
Eko misses with a takedown

so chicken counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Eko avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
chicken must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Eko trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Eko is looking to stand up but chicken isn't so interested in that idea.
chicken is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Eko is breathing heavily.
chicken postures up in Eko's guard and throws a big left but Eko blocks it.

chicken tries to free his leg and advance position but Eko is retaining full guard.

chicken avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Eko shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with chicken but chicken pushes him off and we're back to square one.
chicken throws a push kick but Eko slaps the foot to one side.
The fight stays on the outside here - chicken looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
chicken thuds a left hand into Eko's body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

chicken closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Eko tries for a takedown but chicken manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mr Eko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Eko has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. chicken is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

chicken breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Eko blocks a head kick by chicken.

chicken forces Eko back against the cage and clinches.
chicken displaying some good clinch control by pressing Eko up against the cage.

chicken escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Eko throws a sloppy head kick and chicken moves out of range easily.
chicken shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

chicken takes the fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

jjoor chicken dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

chicken wants to control the pace but Eko is squirming around nicely.
chicken looking to control and managing it successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
chicken landing strikes from the mount and Eko is in trouble!

chicken get's back to his feet.

chicken shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Eko manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
chicken trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
chicken trying to control but Eko is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Eko avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
chicken trying to control the position from guard on top but Eko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
chicken slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Eko is being controlled here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

chicken stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Eko tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
chicken closes the distance and clinches up with Eko, looking for a takedown. chicken pushes Eko against the cage but Eko circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Eko doesn't manage to clinch there - chicken circles away.
chicken moves in looking to clinch but Eko pushes him off.
chicken dodges the punch combination from Eko.
chicken scores with a one two! Eko had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
chicken wants to clinch.

chicken has managed to clinch.
A knee to the head by chicken.

chicken has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Eko uses from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

jjoor chicken showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Eko tries to clinch but chicken moves out of range.
Mr Eko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Eko closes the distance and clinches up with chicken, looking for a takedown. Eko pushes chicken against the cage but chicken circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Eko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Good leg kick by chicken there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
chicken getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

chicken rushes Eko and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

chicken breaks from the clinch.
chicken throws a nice looking combination but Eko bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Eko tries to close the distance and clinch but chicken swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

chicken shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. chicken showed some decent athleticism there.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
chicken passes to side control.
chicken trying to control the action but Eko is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Eko stops chicken from passing to mount.
chicken remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mr Eko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Eko takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

chicken stands up.
jjoor chicken is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

chicken clinches up with Eko and pushes him back against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
jjoor chicken comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well chicken has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
