PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hugh G Rection (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rip James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rection comes to the cage accompanied by Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth. The crowd seem to be enjoying James's choice of entrance music: What's the difference. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Hugh G Rection!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rip James!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James drops his hands momentarily and Rection takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Rection tries to land a leg kick but James saw it coming and moves away.
Rection looks to land a body kick but James moved away.
Rection wants to land a leg kick but James is out of range.

James darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rection wants to improve his position but James is controlling well.
James working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Rection's thigh. Rection counters though and makes it back to full guard.
James sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rection's guard.
Rection knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for James on the ground.
James wants to free his trapped foot but Rection is holding on for dear life with his legs.
James not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

James wants to work for an arm triangle but Rection is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
James throws a strike but Rection avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Rection wants to sweep but no luck.
James pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rection is keeping the position for now.
Rection wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
James trying to move into half guard but instead Rection has managed to sweep!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rection controls the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rection's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Rection trying to control but James is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James has his foot on Rection's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rection works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Hugh G Rection.

James drives through with a takedown into guard.
James postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rection swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rection looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rection controlling James's posture.
James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rection controls James momentarily but James frees himself.
James won't allow Rection to sweep him here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A nice combination there by Rection.
Hugh G Rection seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
James staying out of range there.
James steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rection.
Rection swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
James misses with the combination.
James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rection as he avoids it easily.
James slips under a jab from Rection.
James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rection tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rection to the ground. Rection escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

James shoots in and bounces Rection off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
James looks gassed!
James tries to free his leg and advance position but Rection is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hugh G Rection will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Rection misses with a jab, cross combination.
James throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Danga de danga de dang - Rection scores with a four punch combination!
James throws a head kick but Rection moves out of range.

Rection closes the distance and clinches.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
James misses with some punches.

Rection pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
James tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nice straight punches there by Rection. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Rection.
Rection throws a leg kick which misses James's front leg but catches the back leg as James tries to avoid it.
Rection lands a nice shot that snaps James's head back.
Rection rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but James moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hugh G Rection is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
James is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James walks into a left hand.
Hugh G Rection is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rection drops James with a straight left! Oh this is bad for James! Rection dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (strikes). Hugh G Rection!
